Epic Games is making a new Unreal Tournament game, they announced today on their livestream. It'll be developed in collaboration with fans, and it'll be free.P

That's not free-to-play, Epic promises. Free. No microtransactions here—Epic's cut will come from the community marketplace, where fans can sell what they make in the new Unreal Tournament, and Epic will take a cut.4P

"We're planning on doing it in close collaboration with you, the community," Epic's Steve Polge said on stream.P

It'll be out for Linux, PC, and Mac. There's no game just yet—when Epic says they're making it with fans, they really mean that they're making it with fans. P

"We're basically starting today," said Epic's David Spalinski.P

I wonder if the Shooter UE4 demo that came out recently is the prototype for this game.

Just a small taste of what to expect from the current generation of FPS players when they TRY to play a pure skill based FPS.
 
Not a fan of the idea with it being free (I know it's not F2P) but hopefully it turns out good. Like UT2k4 good.
 
It's a free game that is going to developed with the community, but it's not going to be a s***yy F2P game. This is what PC gaming is, this is how it should be. Amazing.

Sadly, I agree. But I hope one day they develop a full fledged Unreal game that provides the experience from that of UT2k4. It probably won't happen though. It seems like the good ol games like Quake, Command and Conquer etc. get thrown in the F2P bin. Crysis will probably next with Crysis Wars F2P; without mention of Warface.

One game mode I'm almost certain will be added (and I'll gladly pay for it if I have to) is Team Arena Master. Even 3 years after UT2K4 came out and the game was dying there was still a large community of us that played TAM every night for hours upon hours.

Was really looking forward to C&C Generals 2 when it was first announced. Then it went F2P and then canceled.

I was so pissed off about that. I loved C&C Generals and the Zero Hour expansion. MP when playing with friends was so much fun; No rushing for 10 min, so we could at least build the base and some defenses before we go at it.
