Interesting:

Illuminating members on what big difference were between what the WGA was asking for and what they say the studios were putting on the table, the guild revealed tonight just how truly far apart the two sides were up until the end of talks on the money and the future. “WGA proposals would gain writers approximately $429 million per year; AMPTP’s offer is approximately $86 million per year, 48% of which is from the minimums increase,” stated the guild.

On the topic of AI, the WGA wanted to “regulate use of artificial intelligence on MBA covered projects: AI can’t write or rewrite literary material; can’t be used as source material; and MBA-covered material can’t be used to train AI.” The response from the studios was a rejection of the WGA’s proposal, and then a counter offer of “annual meetings to discuss advancements in technology.”

If I remember right the middle of Lost was during the writers strike.
Shortened a lot of seasons. Many people blame the strike on Heroes falling apart.

Some just got flat out cancelled and that is what will happen again if it goes on long enough

My backlog of old shows is huge right now anyway.

I really wonder if the streaming services will be under more pressure to settle this sooner. Network TV can all just run re-runs, but streaming services could start losing people at any moment.

They all will resort to game shows and/or reality series. That's what happened last time.

Grace Randolph provides a really good breakdown for why this is happening. Starts at 4:30 mark and she talks about it for about 20 minutes.

Basically: Streaming has basically killed residuals which so many relied on.

Most people, despite the glam Hollywood likes to portray, are barely scraping by including writers

Streaming services don't make money

Some companies, like Netflix, probably wanted strikes to happen so they could use precedent to get out of contracts

AI needs to be addressed immediately

Man I still got shows I haven’t gotten around to from before 2010. We’re over loaded with content.
