MS: Xbox Game Pass More of a Membership Than Subscription, We Don’t Expect Purchase to be Replaced

Ben Decker, Head of Gaming Services at Microsoft, said that he doesn’t believe Xbox Game Pass will be a replacement for full game purchases. Rather, it’s going to be another option.

Sometimes there is a narrative around either subscribe or buy, but we want to make sure it’s a mixed ecosystem. For gaming to be healthy you want to create choice for developers and for customers. Game Pass is a great way to do that with customers. It’s simply an opportunity for discovery. I don’t see it replacing purchase to own.

Decker than went ahead to say that it’s ultimately more about the quality than the sheer quantity of the games available through the service.

It’s more about balancing content. We want to make sure there is something for everyone. We want to retain a highly curated catalog so that we think every game in the catalog is great.

Initially, we thought that number was going to be really important. But what we hear now is, ‘I don’t want thousands and thousands of games, I want really good games.’

Ashley McKissick, head of Xbox Game Pass, added:

We think of it more as a membership than a subscription. We are constantly looking at ways to add value. Game Pass members get discounted DLC. That doesn’t exist in Netflix’s world.

I'm loving Game Pass right now (only paid 2 bucks for 2 months). Yall need to try Human Fall Flat! It's like guiding a drunk toddler through a bunch of physics puzzles and it's awesome!

Isn't onrush a brand new game? Good little month interested in snake pass, aven colony and shadow warrior

Don't bother, man. OnRush is uninspired garbage, IMO. I tried it last night, and it couldn't be more lame if it tried. Even the announcer sounds uninterested, and energetic performance is pretty crucial to that type of game.

I am very pleasantly surprised by Homefront. Once you get past the absurdity of the Premis, it's actually pretty good. Graphics are fantastic too.

Human fall flat is also great, though I'm stuck on some castle level without a clue where to go next...

Gonna try State of Decay 2 soon.

OnRush is crap. It's almost embarrassing. Dont waste bandwidth....

With me having limited gaming time lately to tackle big AAA titles I have, I’ve had a itch to try some smaller games I already own on my HD (on sale or GwG) or I found on Game Pass.

One game on Game Pass caught my eye I’ve been playing recently is called Sky Force Anniversary. It is a top down view shooter you control a plane through different stages. Each stage has goals you can complete and as you destroy enemies you collect stars as a currency to spend on upgrades for your ship. As you complete stages you also unlock more difficulties. It is a very fun and addicting little game (you always say “just one more run). What I love is the nights I work late I can play this 30 mins or so and feel like I accomplished something.

Highly recommend.

Microsoft CEO: Xbox Game Pass expanding to PC

Microsoft's all-inclusive gaming subscription, Xbox Game Pass is soon headed to PC.

Microsoft recently announced its FY19 Q1 earnings, touting overall strong growth across its enterprise and consumer lineup. Gaming revenue specifically rose by 44 percent, with Xbox software and services revenue garnering growth of 36 percent. Following up these strong results, Microsoft CEO, Satya Nadella, has expanded on future gaming plans.

Speaking on Microsoft's FY19 Q1 earnings call, the firm discussed its increased cross-platform presence with the Xbox brand. Now, following the success of Xbox Game Pass, Xbox One's Netflix-style subscription service for games, Nadella announced plans to expand to PC.

Xbox Game Pass has become a key aspect of Microsoft's gaming services over the past year. While its rotating library of over 100 games is a major draw, this year saw all in-house Microsoft Studios titles hit the service on launch day. And with Halo Infinite, Gears 5, and more on the horizon, the subscription is quickly becoming essential for many Xbox One owners.

While details on its PC expansion are limited, a debut on Windows 10's integrated Microsoft Store seems likely. However, with the storefront lacking authority in PC gaming, it's unclear what value can be expected beyond consoles.

Going to try Sniper Elite 4 fo sure...hoping for something like Strange Brigade announced in Mexico.

Came out in June i think but bombed pretty hard
It's terrible...which is sad because it's made by Codemasters who have had some good racing games over the years. I was bored after like 2 "races".

Thanks for the reco here. Downloaded and played this last night and had a blast (solo). Imagine it would be even more fun in co-op. ...@Hedon dunno what you smokin' bruh but nothing like Galaga...more like 1943 or other SHMUP. The only problem is that Skyforce Anniversary is going bye bye at the end of this month. There is another game called Skyforce Reloaded that I also tried but I didn't like it as much. Basically, it gets harder much faster and also thought the grfx weren't as good despite it being a newer game? Anyway, I'm going to look for Skyforce Anniversary on sale after it's gone from Gamepass.

Anybody try _Observer yet? That is probably my next Gamepass game to try.

Sucks it is leaving Pass. I’ve enjoyed my time with it.

Where does it say Fallout 4 is leaving soon?

Hopefully at Mexico next week...its on my must buy list soon so that would be awesome.
Thanks for this...was just about to pull the trigger on that ebay deal (RDR2 and SotTR for $70)...but if I can get SotTR for "free" that would be awesome!

If I can ever tear myself away from Red Dead and Odyssey, I’m really looking forward to playing Observer, Sniper Elite 4, and Forza
