Xbox July event thread

I am sure everyone is gonna get their hopes up, expect that mic drop moment after moment, and then watch it and say "what a s*** show", and still buy an Xbox Series X.

Well this time the control is totally in MS hands if they are going to have a first party blow out. No one to blame but themselves if they f*** up the July show.
DON'T GET YOUR HOPES UP

Depends how MS handles their marketing, doesn't it.. If they do like the last one, yep.

Oh I'm sure they'll do something wrong
It really isn't hard. Announce new AAA IPs. Aactual gameplay of exclusive AAA games, not just Forza & Halo. Console price. They have plenty of that then it just comes down to if the games look good or not.

I don't think they will be good enough.

I agree with what you say but someway somehow MS will find a way.

So what you're saying is not 2 seconds of Halo Infinite's start screen followed by 85 minutes of first look at Spielberg's Halo project?

Infinite, PG games, Forza 8, NT and Initiative alone will make a splash big enough to where nothing else will need to be said on the matter. If they drop a banger price tag to boot, this'll be one for the ages.

I have to say, I REALLY do miss those mic drop moments. The show is wrapping up...credits are about to roll......the screen pans to the Xbox logo...."XBOX EXCLUSIVE"....and then "Grand Theft Auto 6".....

BOOM

but it doesn't seem like we get that stuff anymore.

If the games are impressive. Its not enough for Halo Infinite to be shown you want it to be shown in such a way that its clear that Halo is back to being one of the best games around.

But I don't see how they don't have one of the best shows they have ever had

I would imagine that it's still early for many of the newly purchased studios to build new games from the ground up and show them in the next 2 months. I can picture:

Halo Infinite gameplay
Forza 8 gameplay
Gears 6 Trailer
The Initiative game trailer
Playground games RPG game trailer

I think it's too early for Hellblade 2, Everwild and Obsidian's RPG.

They have a big June even too. Why no thread for that Rollins? Why are you slacking?

Because I’m lazy!

AND because I’m 99.3% sure that’s going to be the Lockhart reveal, which we already sort of have a thread for....started by some weirdo here.

I guess it depends on how early they are willing to show their games. I feel like they have to be willing to show stuff a little farther off because we know Sony will and if Microsoft doesn't than they risk Sony stealing the spotlight.

I would think they show more than that because if Halo and Forza are launch games what is coming in 2021? You would assume more than just Fable.

It's so hard to figure out. I just wish we could be a fly on the wall in the conference room to see the game map. I understand why they don't just tell us everything, but I tend to be impatient at times.

Forza 8 might be the first Forza I don't buy if they don't improve it dramatically over Forza 7. We need more tracks, more rules, better interactive pits. Halo Infinite is a given for me. I just finished Gears 5 this past year so seeing anything Gears 6 doesn't appeal to me at the moment.

Fable 4, if true, I would be happy to see.

Phil said they learned their lesson with showing off and committing to Scalebound too early. Since they actually own these studios and have control over them (technically), maybe he is more comfortable with early reveals.

I assume they were never stopped being comfortable showing games early and that was just damage control for Scalebound. Its just a question of whether they have enough coming within 12-18 months so that they don't have to.

Agree with this for sure. At this point, they need the games to do the talking. All the new studio acquisitions, the power of the XSX, the aggressive messaging....it all leads up to the games.

IMO this is really where they need to study Sony’s playbook. Sony are masters at hyping games. I thought MS had made all the right moves up until the recent Inside. I thought the games were ‘meh’ but after I went and watched the trailers on YT I realized they have a lot of cool games coming, but MS didn’t present them in an exciting way.

The July event is the biggest chance they have to gain mind share since the hardware reveal. All the first party studios need to show SOMETHING after all this time, and that ‘something’ better get people excited, especially after Sony blows their load in June.

With what MS has reveled with respect to the Series X, Gamepass, Software and Hardware Backward compatibility, and their smart delivery systems, gamers should be chomping at the bit to get their hands on Series X. And to a greater extent, they are. My hope is that marketing does not get in the way and mess up or muddle the message on the Series X and deliver a marketing campaign worthy of this hardware and let MS compete this go round with Sony.

Like I said, when Sony do their format better than what MS shows, all this will lead to is MS is still out of touch.

Well if it's anything like Sony of the past couple years...E3 no show, Flute E3 and showing the same three games over and over, MS might stand at least a 1% chance.

A comment from the Reddit thread:

''We already knew that Xbox has their big show and E3 replacement in July since it is official information but it seems like Xbox wants to go all out with its transparency and show most of their stuff (if not all) that is currently in development.
A lot of speculation is going on that we, for example, see the Fable Reboot, which is still far away from Release (Xbox Insider Klobrille expects the Game to release Q1/Q2 2022). So we will probably also see other projects that are (very?) early in development.
We are obviously also going to see some (Big) Third Party Games there which adds to the excitement.
The Xbox Event in July will be their answer to Sony's big Event in June. Definitely interesting months ahead.''
