"Xbox Off" might just be terrible

There are fail-safes, and mechanisms in place to help prevent any kind of misuse, and data is continually saved... Because a user can swap out of a game experience to another experience, so the game keeps things generally up to date, and can save everything it needs in a single second after a "DeactivateApp" event has been triggered... And a game would get such an event if the console were turned off.

This won't be an issue.

Edit: kiosks run a modified OS. Not an issue there either.

Does the X1 automatically save before this command does its thing? I can see a lot of siblings ready to tear in to eachother over that. Also, what about the kiosk? The next "OMG X1 is fail" will be potential customers playing at BestBuy only to be trolled by somebody yelling "Xbox Off".
They specifically said that the kinect recognizes your voice only. Some one else screaming xbox off will not be an issue lol

Insomniac Developers Shut Off The Xbox One Using Studio PA

maybe its just a devkit thing.

1. A pa system sends voice "audio" from many different directions. PA systems are generally built to get maximum saturation of audio delivered... So, it's certainly feasible that a PA system could "trick" the sensor in ways which people couldn't replicate in their homes.

2. The dev kits have been running non-final software. They also have settings and tools which help developers in making/testing their software, but it means they can also get into states which home consoles cannot.

So yeah, this isn't really an issue... Besides, with dev kits you can usually reset them remotely if you have their IP and you're on the same LAN... So there are much easier ways of doing the same thing which is true of all modern dev kits.

Way back when I worked on the original Xbox, some colleagues and I tricked our management into believing there was a common scenario we could 100% reproduce, which would lead to the console resetting. We (of course) had just cleverly hid the network wires, and we had a phone on 'speaker' so a buddy could remotely reset it at our command... We freaked out a lot of people with that one. :-)

Ah, the good ol' days...

I must be old, I remember the days of just unplugging someone's controller if they were beating me or pushing them off of the bed or couch if they were sitting next to me lol.

Intellivision had built in controllers you couldn't yank out. And the range of the twisty cord was maybe only 3-4 ft from the console. The best way to not lose was to just hammer down on the reset button. lol

Get better friends?

Honestly this conversation blows my mind. Why would you game with people who would do that in the first place?

'Ooooh what if a few friends do this with the Kinect,LOL.' Who the hell would go to such extremes with the Kinect, playing a dirty joke on their friends like that? Leave it to a certain bunch over at GAF to use this scenario as a major negative bullet point. Totally grasping at any negativity they can find now, quite funny.

If this is a major negative bullet point for any console, then I think it's safe to say that console is doing pretty good.

Who is to say that the kiosk will have a Kinect device? It would be good for demoing the fuctionality, but it's still unknown. But I'm sure the Xbox One kiosk are especailly programmed by Microsoft to have limited functionality to prevent such things.
