New Xbox One Update

Xbox 360 games can now be purchased on Xbox One and played using the console's backwards compatibility function. As detailed in an update on Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb's blog, this feature will be available to test for those part of Microsoft's update preview program from March 1.

"Fans have spent more than 30 million hours playing Xbox 360 games on Xbox One and so it's natural that being able to purchase Xbox 360 Backward Compatible games on Xbox One ranks as one of your top requests. With this update, you’ll be able to do so," the update reads.

"Find and purchase Xbox 360 backward compatible games the same way you would Xbox One titles and, once purchased, Xbox 360 Backward Compatible content will automatically download to your Xbox One and be ready to play."

Also part of this update will be the ability to include Party Chat in Twitch broadcasts.

"If you are broadcasting from your console and in a party, you can invite other people to include their chat audio in your broadcast," the post explains. "If a member of your party declines, they’ll still be able to chat in the party; they just won’t be heard in the broadcast.

"Additionally, as the party leader, you have the option to mute a party member’s chat audio, even if they opted-in. You can also include party members on Windows 10 PCs in your Twitch broadcast."

A list of other features can be found below:
  • Output your Party Chat to headset and speakers simultaneously: Xbox One Preview members will be able to select their preference for where Party Chat audio is heard: their headset, speakers, or both. To do this, go to Settings – Display & Sounds – Volume.
  • Customizable Game DVR recording length: Based on Xbox Feedback, it’s clear that fans want to be able to configure the length of their Game DVR recordings. Currently, Game DVR recording is fixed to a 30 second duration. With this update, Xbox One Preview members can adjust the recording length to 15 seconds, 30 seconds, 45 seconds, 1 minute, 3 minutes or 5 minutes. To change the preferences, visit Settings – Preferences – Game DVR & streaming.
  • Track Achievement progress in the Xbox One guide: We’re making it easier to access your Achievements by including them in the Xbox One guide. In the new Achievements area you’ll find a quick link to see all of your Achievements and you’ll be able to track your Achievement progress in real time directly in the guide, without having to snap a separate Achievements app.
  • Video playback directly in the Xbox One Activity Feed:We’ve made improvements to video playback in the Xbox One Activity Feed. Xbox One Preview members will be able to play an entire video inline rather than having to leave their feed to launch it. You can even ‘like’ the video while previewing it by pressing X. Preview members will also enjoy new pause, restart, and full-screen playback options, when they do choose to launch a video from their Activity Feed.
  • Gamerscore Leaderboard: In the Xbox app (beta), fans will be able to enjoy the same Gamerscore Leaderboard feature introduced to Xbox One last month. Access the Gamerscore Leaderboard in the Xbox app (beta) by navigating to the Achievements section of your profile. See where you stand relative to your friends by comparing total Gamerscore, as well as the biggest gains over a rolling 30-day period. A Leaderboard for game stats will also be coming to the Xbox app (beta). Visit the Game Hub for a title with hero stats, click on Achievements and see how you stack up against your friends.
  • Updated ‘Featured’ section: The ‘Featured’ gaming section below the ‘Recently played’ games area has been updated to spotlight games, deals, community events and more.
  • 16-person Party Chat: Last fall, we expanded Party Chat to enable 12-person Parties on Xbox One and the Xbox app. This feature has been very popular with the community, so now we’re enabling 16-person Parties across both Xbox One Preview and the Xbox app (beta) starting today.
  • Xbox 360 Achievements in Xbox One and Xbox app Activity Feeds: Starting this month for both Xbox One Preview and Xbox app (beta) participants, Xbox 360 Achievements will automatically post to your console and Windows 10 PC Activity Feeds. As with Xbox One game Achievements, the Xbox 360 Achievement graphic will feature a description of the Achievement, the game you earned it from, and the Gamerscore associated with it.
  • Follow web links and YouTube videos from Game Hubs:Community managers of Game Hubs will now be able to populate Game Hubs with web and YouTube hyperlinks, making the Game Hubs experience even more interactive and engaging for gamers. For Xbox One Preview members, web links will display in a browser via the Edge app and YouTube links will open in the YouTube app. For the Xbox app (beta), links will open in your default web browser. As with any other item in your Activity Feed, you can caption, like, comment on, and share these links.
  • Compare your Avatars: In Xbox One Preview shortly and releasing to the Xbox Avatars app later this month, you’ll be able to compare your Avatar with your friends’ Avatars. You can click through on a specific friend’s Avatar; preview their Avatar’s clothing, accessories and props on your Avatar; and also see how you can purchase or earn the items yourself. Using the ‘Compare Avatars’ feature will help you customize your Avatar leveraging the best of all your friends’ outfits! You can also compare your Avatar with anyone else’s in the Xbox Live community – just select ‘Compare Avatars’ when you are viewing another member’s profile.
  • Reputation rating interface changes: The Xbox Live community is comprised overwhelmingly of players with positive reputations, and so, the vast majority of profiles are rated ‘good.’ As a result, we are changing our reputation interface to draw attention only to players who have been rated ‘needs work’ or ‘avoid me’. For Xbox One Preview and Xbox app (beta) members, ‘good’ players’ profiles will no longer feature a reputation gauge, however, gamers whose profiles are tagged ‘needs work’ or ‘avoid me’ will continue to feature the reputation flag.

16 person party chat. Back-compat 360 games purchasable. Customizable Game DVR recording length. Sounds like a decent update.

Is it just me or the Xbox One controller the most cheaply made, breakable pieces of s*** ever?

I still have my original Xbox 360 controller and it works flawlessly. My Xbox One controllers though, nope, they both have developed a horrible groove in the left stick that makes movement jerky. My original one got so bad that the stick would get stuck on the stick opening. This only takes a couple of months to occur too.

It has been the best built controller I have ever used in all my years of gaming on multiple different platforms. Quality has been aces. But now that I am rocking the Elite, not a damn thing compares.

Phil is definitely a class-act:

Wrath is a f***ing moron anyway and an embarrassment to xbox fans and gamers in general. Just saw a vid of him saying Spencer should be fired and how he is doing a s*** job, and is the sole reason the xbox is in the position it is now. Was he asleep for the reveal? Does the name Don Mattrick just not ring a bell for this guy?

My Y button sometimes becomes stuck on my day 1 controller so I pass that off to my mate who comes round for fifa and watch those loooong through balls haha. I blame crappy games that make you mash you button to get something done. dafuq outa here.

nice, the store should give publishers more incentive to make their games back compat.

I love the updates, but I've gotta say that the store for 360 games should have honestly been there day one. Having people buy 360 games on pc to play on xbox one since November is kinda lame, IMO. Plus..... Why leave money on the table? Just saying. Yeah, I had to do that last month.

Controllers are very easy to open up and clean. You could fix that no problem, plenty of YouTube vids out there.

I've only ever broken one controller, and that was a Wiimote in the middle of drunken hide and seek.

My Xbox/PS/Nintendo controllers live forever, and they get chucked around/put in backpacks/carboots a lot.

While it may seem like overreacting to some people, I no longer have a 360, so I actually had look up whether or not I can just purchase 360 games on my pc through Xbox.com and it would just work on my One. I wasn't really sure if it would work that way. Would they just pop up on my Xbox One after the purchase on the pc? There seemed to no documentation from Microsoft explaining this process.

Not trying to blow this out of proportion, but just having those games for sale in the marketplace makes a lot more sense than having to research and purchase on a pc for a game I would be playing on Xbox One. The compatibility list itself hasn't even been available on the Xbox One. It's not really what I would call a solid business model. Cool feature for people that bought everything digital or still had their discs, for sure. That just wasn't me.

I understand, I was just messing around with the picture.

I for one do most of my Xbox One game and Xbox 360 game (for my Xbox One) purchases and downloads on the PC at work. Same with my PlayStation. It's much easier on PC.

If you get a game from Xbox.com to get a BC game it will show up for ready to download.
I did that and it was exciting to see the game (Portal: SA) pop up there. It just felt kinda "back-door", getting to that point.

I wouldn't have hesitated to do this a second time, but I think that the whole process should be able to originate on the playing console. I'm glad that they are finally removing this barrier, and I hope they sell a lot of 360 games through Xbox One. As far as consumer tracking, they probably have been missing some key data from purchases like mine. Still, hopefully the 360 Store for Xbox One proves a viable way to keep older games still alive and selling.

I'm on my third controller, but I put mine through regular extensive and extreme use. I believe the ridiculous amount of time I log on Killer Instinct is the culprit.

Yup, the one thing i can applaud him for even if i'm not entirely sure about his vision for the Xbox brand is his passion for the industry as a whole. This guy gets it, and gives props where they are due. Doesn't matter if it's PS4, Wii U, or PC.

Phil is basically putting an end to the console war, and if that gets Microsoft into the good graces of gamers then that's what they need to do. Microsoft has taken so much unnecessary hate this gen and it's nice to see things turning around a bit.

I don't understand this PC Xbox problem at all. I didn't have a 360 any more, until last week. When I went to download items all my stuff I downloaded was ready to go the second I downloaded my profile. All it said was games associated with different console. I cleared it and went to download history l, and just downloaded it?
Sometimes I get confused with all tech talk on here, then I see stuff like this, these were games that I just went online clicked a button, and set to que once I got another 360. All games with gold etc

??? I'm talking about PURCHASING games on a PC, so I can play it on Xbox One. I sold my 360 and over 200 games to make way for this gen. I simply didn't have room anymore. I had very few digital downloads last gen, save some GWG games. This gen, I'm almost all digital now!

Anyway, this purchase 360 games through Xbox.com method works fine, but I honestly think going to a website and having to research which games are compatible, then buying it online feels strange the first time. There was no guarantee that it would just pop up on my Xbox One (which it did) Like I said before, it kinda feels "back-door", or like stepping back to the late '90s. Why not just include them on the marketplace in Xbox One? How this wasn't an option on day one seems extremely odd to me.

I'm not ranting anymore, just trying to explain what the problem was. Again, glad they "listened to the gamers" enough to provide a simple means for me to give them money for a product where I will be playing it.

This is supposed to be available for the preview program hopefully by the end of the week. They have pictures up of a xbox 360 storefront but it wasn't quite ready when it updated on Monday. I am looking forward to that though it never bothered me to go to xbox.com on my phone or surface.

Hidden List Of Upcoming Microsoft Games Suggests Forza Horizon 3 And Other Games
022cebbb-0935-49ab-af8a-dce24a924693.jpg

An XML file in the Windows 10 version of Gears of War: Ultimate Edition has been discovered and it appears to make references to quite a few games from Microsoft Studios. While most of the titles are references to games that Microsoft has already released on previous version of Windows and Xbox consoles, there are also references to upcoming titles such as ScaleBound, ReCore and Quantum Break.

One such reference is titled Microsoft.Opus.PG. The PG reference is also found on a reference for Forza Motorsport 6: Apex and may stand for PlayGround Games, the developers behind Forza Horizon.

Many of the games listed come from Microsoft’s line of casual games for Windows. My guess is that these titles are being updated for Windows 10 and will be playable on Xbox One when the Redstone update arrives in June.

Intriguingly, there is a reference to Project Knoxville from Press Play Games as well as other titles attributed to the same studio such as Project Flair, Project Fortune and Project Mercury. There are also some unknown titles such as a beta for TJ Combo Boxing, Hogan Threshold and Lucille.

Here is the complete list found within the XML file.

Microsoft announced a new Forza game a couple of days ago. It had no solid title but odds are it will be Horizon 3. Would be too soon to be a new Motorsport game.
