How is it a waste? Everybody who bought an Xbox got a headset. Same can not be said about Kinect.
A waste because I don't know anyone that is going to go throw on their headset just to use Cortana to Google (because we know Bing sucks) something on Xbox.

As long as they have a mic solution. They've pretty much neutered the kinect anyway. Man I miss the gestures.

I got a gesture for ya.

Cortana integration through smartglass. Oh, wait, is that as naughty a word in Redmond as Kinect is now? Hmm. Too bad, seemed like a real solution.

Scorpio will happen at some point. But if the rumour is true its fall 2017, I doubt we'll hear anything about it at E3. MS hadrware is typically announced and launched the same year, so a Scorpio would be PR'ed probably early 2017 or E3 2017.

Plus I'd think it would cannabilize Slim sales. Especially since it sounds like streaming 4k and a cheap price tag will be it's big selling points.

I don't think we'll hear anything official about the Scorpio at least until Sony shows the Neo.

But if the Neo launches this year, which it sounds like it will, I'd expect the Scorpio sooner rather than later.

They take pictures of me all the time. My kinect flashes off/on when its on. Im sure by now they have a HD picture of my Batman insignia tramp stamp on my lower back. Jealous NSA is jealous...

Ahh.... that explains you smiling for this shot.

I also believe that the Scorpio is coming in 2017, but as far as it's being announced this year? I think it's a strong possibility.

Last week's leaks were all controlled leaks by Microsoft. None of it was by accident or by the clever digging of insiders. They knew absolutely nothing before last week. Phil Spencer had been teasing new hardware since March 1st. He started the whole conversation by talking about new hardware and how they intend to innovate in the future. If it was Microsoft's intent not to announce anything this year then there wouldn't have been any news of any kind. You would have Spencer, Greenberg and others out there debunking and killing rumors instead of hash tag teasing things like "Creative Chatter".

Something is about to get announced. And it's not just a cute version of the Xbox One.

Microsoft will not announce Scorpio, it will be all about the Xbox Slim this holiday to drive the sales. There will be controlled leaks leading up to Neo's release. Microsoft will make the announcement next spring and Scorpio will launch holiday 2017.

I agree to a point but I really think we'll see something more concrete if the Neo really launches this year. The leaks thus far have worked well but to generate discussion but it won't last if they don't give us at least a confirmation this year.
If Neo launches in September for example, then have an official Scorpio unveiling in August, or something to that effect.

I agree with Rollins, they have to announce the Scorpio to kill the Neo dead on arrival. No bulls*** delays, no disappointments, they need to ride the wave they created all the way up to release day!

Even if they announce it in a few months a year is a long time. There is a reason consoles usually don't revealed so early. They will want to kill the momentum of the Neo but you don't kill your own products as well.

Seriously, Microsoft could hold off on releasing information about Scorpio up until the day the Neo is released. The effect would still be the same. For example: Release specs and release date a week before Neo releases, as long as its more powerful and that power is displayed in exclusives, it would throw a HUGE monkey wrench is Sony's plan for domination. Microsoft could knock this one out of the park if they play their cards right...

Eh the slim will be out in stores on June 13th, just like the other revisions. The price cut was to shift existing phat stock.

If MS did announced the Scorpio this year, it would only mean one thing: it's out this holiday or spring 2017, but if that were they case they would take a hit on the hardware, not an Xbox 360 level loss, but in the region of $25-50 a unit, which is peanuts and they'd be in profit after a 3-4 months, but still something they would rather avoid...saying that 8 million units is $400M, not even anything significant in the long term.

If they were to release specs i would either keep it very vague (6TF+ rather than 6.24TF or whatever) or do it after production on Neo has begun (if launching in November, this would be about August) to a point where Sony is unable to react.

But they should definitely leverage the uncertainty with rumor, but they should lead everyone to believe the thing will only have 8GB of (faster) ram, and actually release with 12GB or more. There's no way they release a console 4 years after XBOne and they both have the same amount of memory.

I think it was more like E3 is only 2 weeks away and the announcements of the streaming devices/slim was leaked (or is hearsay) and there was probably a spec release of MS intentions for their next platform with a general launch window.

Is the date you quoted just your own speculation...? I only ask because Polygon listed August. Sooner would be better though.

The 2 potential rumors I'm hearing (Ybarra and Phil have both hinted something 'as big as BC' at E3, and having to do with software magic)
are that the X1 might actually be able to stream 4k and/or the Slim might support VR. Again, just rumors. Not sure how they would pull either of these off though.

Does anyone have any idea how much more horsepower the X1 would need to run Oculus? I'm not saying it can obviously, I'm just wondering if it would need a bump, or a big upgrade.

It is, my reasoning being Xbox 360 S and Xbox 360 E were announced at E3 conferences and in stores that day, there are obvious reasons behind this but the main one being to avoid shortages (which in 2004 left the PS2 sussceptable to OG Xbox outselling it in the US for 2-3 months because Sony misjudged the PS2slim shipments) , the price drop offer expires on the same day, because as of that day, the slim will be the new Standard XBO (and probably have a default 1TB HDD) - Why else have a 2 week price drop that conspicuously ends on E3 conference day.

I'm pretty sure. I have no idea about those rumors, but if I had to guess it could be OG Xbox BC and (more likely) PC game compatibility, i mean the One may not be the equivalent of a high end PC, but it can assuredly run most PC games from 2007 and earlier. It would be a massive boom for the Win10/Xbox Store to have hundreds of PC games on their service. Of course the logistics of which would be insane with controller support and achievements.

The only reason MS would have to chase VR is simply to have a foot in it in case it's massive, it won't be cos at the moment, every game looks crap and gimmicky like Kinect or Move , but it stands to reason Oculus would like it integrated into 300 million PCS, a gaming console and MS would like a few hundred VR games - less the cost of developing a headset (aside from Hololens) - to ensure it cedes nothing to PSVR in terms of library....but thats only really major for the Neo, I hear the standard PS4 will run PSVR games very badly (at least with their current kits)
