It seems we only have to buy one copy to play on various devices.

If true this is huge for me and f00ked up on Sony's part if they don't match..ie if I buy TLOU 2 I shouldn't have to rebuy it again for PS5 enhancements.
We were just recently stating the difference between Sony's hardware-locked BC approach and Microsoft's software magic that turns old games into 4K/60 games. It's interesting that Microsoft's approach can go both forwards and backwards with the same game code. What's unclear, is just how Sony can put any upgrade paths into the older game software. I just don't see the upgrades being worthwhile, and they might as well just remaster them. For instance, I wish that I could get Horizon: ZD 4K/60 to just play right out of the PS5 box. This would be AMAZING! That's the kind of thing we've been getting with older games on XB1X. Kind of a shame if Sony can't do that without essentially remaking the game.

This makes me wonder if... what if Microsoft allows 1st party and AAA devs to add advanced features like RT to older software? Could that even happen to games line RDR2 or Sea of Thieves? Could some of the games that I play right now get instant upgrades when I plug in an XSX for the first time? Would be simply amazing, if so! X1X has already spoiled me that way, but we'll have to see if completely new architecture works the same way.

Ignorance is real
Its all because of The Verge article and their headline tactics, imo. It has gone viral since the following...
"Microsoft says Xbox Series X won’t have exclusive first-party games at launch"
Purposefully not linking...

This kind of headline has caused unnecessary confusion. In the actual article, of course they are talking about DROPPING a unique feature [FC] after a couple of years, not that there won't be exclusives... which now exclusives are defined to a single generation? It's just garbage reporting, and The Verge just hit rock bottom, imo. Reporting like this from a major news source just breeds more ignorance, imo.

Double can mean a lot of things, and is EXTREMELY vague. Especially since NAVI is more efficient.

Is it 12TFs? 12 NAVI TF's is going to be more than twice as fast as Xbox One X's GPU.

See where I am going with this?
Welcome to what I was trying to say a few pages back.

Double doesn't mean 12 when he's saying double the power.
12TF's of RDNA 2 would be significantly higher than double the performance.
I think 12 is the goal but not confirmed because they haven't reach the goal yet...
I doubt they don't achieve this with all these sites claiming they did as added pressure.
It's 12 Navi TF's.
It can not be double without twice the compute.
Why people keep questioning this is pretty puzzling.

How much work can be done with each Tera Flop is a different discussion.
You can't advertise less than 12 TF's as 2 times XB1X especially when you're quoted saying "when doing the Math it is 2 times the XB1X".
The only math to be done is measured in TF's.
TF's is what was used to describe how powerful the XB1X and it is what Phil Spencer was referring to in that statement.
So you guys just need to do the math...

I actually agree with both of you. What you are saying lines up perfectly with what Microsoft said about Xbox One X (Project Scorpio) being 4X more powerful than Xbox One. I also agree with Val, in that it's impossible to quantify what 2X actually means. It's just that I think here we have the Xbox team laying out a generalization of TF on purpose, just as they did last time, as they can't just say 12 TF until they release the full specs. Edit: and any bonuses from new architecture will just be icing on top.

Agreed

Another thing people like to point to is Phil using the OVER 8 times Xbox One figure.
XB1 = 1.4 TF's x 8 = 11.2 TF's. Over 8 x but also two times XB1X so when you do the Math 6TF's x 2 = 12 TF's. 12 TF's lines up with both those statements. Less than 12 would NOT.

When Phil described XB1X as 4 times XB1 lets see what we actually got.
1.4 TF's x 4 = 5.6 TF's We actually got 6 TF's which is 400 GF's more than Phil stated. The difference between PS4 and XB1 is 400GF's.
Phil stated XB1X would be 4 times XB1 but really it was over 4 times and that was without taking into account the Architectural improvements that XB1X brought over XB1.
With all the architectural improvements XB1X brought over XB1 the XB1X is closer to 6 times the XB1 in actual performance.
You get 4 times the pixels, more detailed textures (if devs choose to), better Frame rates at those higher resolutions, better AF, better draw distances, higher bandwidth and 50% more Ram. Very difficult to quantify all that so a simple 4 times figure was given.

Using the above as evidence I have Concluded as well as every major gaming site on the web that has actually interviewed Phil that XBSX is indeed a minimum of 12 TF's but quite possibly more.

It's a yes and I suggest anyone who doubts this listen to there trusted DF who recently said this.
Is there a possibility that last gen versions of games hold back next gen versions?
Yes there is that possibility.
Will that actually happen depends on if 1st party develops games with XSX in mind first and then ports down the game to XB1.

Does Hellblade look like it's being held back?

Because if so, those second year exclusives should look ridiculous.
They need to advertise that more. Ryse was a missed opportunity to showcase the performance. TBH nothing really blew my socks off like Ryse this gen...

Hellblade 2? Cause that won't look the same when released.
Halo Infinity? Yes it does
But you haven't seen Series X footage of Halo Infinite, you know that, right?

The first Hellblade game held up to the first looks of what they showed, not sure why you'd second guess them now.

Ryse got absolutely railroaded by fanboys and gaf journalists, that was kind of amazing to see. That whole ridiculous backlash about the finishers in the game.. literally the first and last time we've ever heard such a concerted grandstanding about the mechanic and then dead silence about every game before and after with similar mechanics.

I'm still pissed we'll never see a sequel but I guess thats more on Crytek than anything else really.

It was a solid 7.5 to 8 out of 10 IMO. No difference from any other hack'n slash other than a way better story, characters and voice actors.

I really feel like Ryse could have been a strong franchise for Cytek and MS. The game could have lent itself well to different environment. Ryse: Son of Japan, Ryse: Son of Africa, Ryse: Daughter of Athens etc. The possibilies are endless. Hopefully with the new administration running Xbox, they revist this with Crytek.

The scope of the game will be held back.
I would hope Halo Infinite wasn't on next gen hardware because it sure did look current gen. Could of sworn it was said to be next gen footage unless MS lied? Nahhh they wouldn't do that I must be mistaken.

Hellblade 2 will not look like that regardless of which hardware it's on.

We haven't seen hardly anything from either game playing on series X to make any assumptions in my opinion.
