Yeah, i believe so. When i had my X1 set to instant on it would turn on at random times. I'd come home and i'd wonder why it was on and then remember why. lol
You sure some desperate soul didn't break in your house, updated your console, played a couple of games, made himself a sandwich and left? I hate when they do that s***. I'm like, "batch! You ate the last piece of buttermilk bread?!" wtf
:yrage:

f*** traditional bread. Brown rice loaf is the future.

So something weird happened today on my Xbox One. I turned it on to see if FH2 was pre-loaded and installed already. It took a good 30-45 seconds for something to show up on the screen. The first thing that popped up after I turned it on was "Xbox.systemupdate" or something similar said it took too long to load. I said "Xbox , turn off" and it did. I turned it back on with "Xbox On". Same thing showed up. So I had to hard reset the whole thing, THEN the update finally popped up and it was fine again.

What I didn't like was that I couldn't sign into Xbox Live to see my games and stuff if I didn't update... so before I hard resetted the Xbox One, I was looking at my network settings etc. to make sure it was connected. It was , it just couldn't sign into Live so I couldn't access my games or profile. Anyways, something similar happened to me a few times too before where I said Xbox On and the Kinect wouldn't respond and I had to hard reset the whole console again that time too.

Do you mean you couldn't use your pins or that you couldn't find the games in the games/app section?

Something weird with Netflix for my brother. He loads up the Netflix app on X1 and it just keeps loading and loading, you know..the circle keeps rotating and nothing happens. I tried it on my X1 and it's all good. Any suggestions?

shut it down fully and turn it back on

The console you mean? I don't think he has it on insant on, but i will ask.

That will happen once in a while, just shut the console down and turn it back on like Dibils said. It does not matter if it’s instant on/energy savings. If it’s still doing it after that I do a hard reset although sometimes it’s just the internet craping out.

Yeah, like most (all?) Computers, sometimes you have to reboot. It makes sense, as its possible there are components that cant update while in stand by.

But it shouldn't stop all functions. Even when the computer needs an update it lets you have the option to choose when to update. Before that you are free to keep using the comp as normal.

Doesn't the X1 have that option?

My guess the reason is that it's a fixed system, and any features need to support the newest update, and PCs have so many variations that you can't just require everyone to have the newest thing. Still, try going to some sites without updated Java or Flash, and you can't utilize them till you do.

I also imagine it depends on the nature of the update as to weather a reboot is required. I definitely don't have to reboot every time there is one, and I keep mine in standby.

Yeah, I'm just confused because it seems to be random. I always leave it in standby and most of time it works fine. Just the few odd times every once in a while that it just doesn't respond and I need to hard reset everytime. Probably a bug in the OS somewhere.

I don't think it's a bug, but just more a matter of a different update will address and affect different aspects that may or may not be tied to something that can't be changed while it's running.

It's not just the update , I'm saying. I've had occasions where I couldn't boot up the Xbox One at all using Kinect or the controller. I had to press the button on the console itself to hard reset the console just to boot up, there was no update at that time. That's why I said it's seemingly so random.

Oh, I see. Yeah, I think that, like my computer, it just needs a refresh every now and then.

What are you people doing to your consoles? I just turn mine on and off, and it works like a charm.

Yes, a Cold reboot solves most things, hold the start button on the X1 console for 10 seconds until it shots down and restart

Good to know guys. So i guess once in a while a full reboot is not a bad idea, right? Most of the time i have mine on instant on, but if i want to do that full reboot now and then....do i change that in the settings or can i just as well put the console in instant on and then just remove the power cable from it for a sec and put it back in?

Another question...

In the Display & Sound options on the X1...what do i do with Color depth, i kinda assumed the higher the better, so i put it at 36 bits per pixel. Is that ok?

Oh and as for color space...PC gives my games a much more colourful and well..detailed look, but it does seem to crush black levels too. I assume TV is the one to go for?

For a cold reboot, just hold down the power button on the console for 10 seconds. No need to unplug, then wait 30 seconds, then then it back on.

Go with the TV setting for colour depth (24).

Yeah this is way different than the 360 which did a cold boot each time. Like a computer, it can have issues over time. I've been hard booting mine at least once a month and that is fine with me. I didn't expect I would be able to leave in standby indefinitely. I think if you are in the preview, some of this stuff is exacerbated as well.

I've left my PS4 in standby since launch and had zero issues. I think it has to do with the 3 OS's the Xbox One is using.
