f***ing dumb!

Devils in the details, and that's what I love! It may not be night and day, but running the video and comparing it to my one X right after makes a pretty noticeable upgrade.

The depth from the GI and additional shadowing in the foliage as well as shadows rendering further away is awesome. Notably when it zooms in on Cait when sheswith Marcus sniping. Neither she nor the foliage around have shadows and it just looks more flat.

If it were just the cutscene (that will run 60ps instead of 30) I'd agree, as almost all effects are turned on. The updated version basically gives you the cutscene quality while playing. It also had more particles.

Minecraft's simplicity allows that jump to be more noticeable, as Gears was already using more advanced rendering...
But your method of comparison shows it to be small. Minecraft on the otherhand is an obvious night and day difference.

Nobody is saying the Gears upgrades look bad, they don't, but if you have to zoom in 300% and specifically notice stuff, then it is negligable. The only one I really noticed was the overall GI.

Still, many months to XSX release. Who knows what it will look like then.

I can't wait to see the Gears 5 differences in person where I think it will be more noticeable.

I know the demo was only after 2 weeks of optimization, but I’m betting the final release will kick ass on your new set! What did you go with for size? I’m taking a hard look at the same one, but waiting for your review.

You dont have to zoom though. Maybe on a 1080p screen with YouTube compression. The problem is that it IS the small details where we will see the improvement. Those are the things that impress me nowadays.

They are good at faking. Now it's about making it more and more acurate. That extra layer that seats a scene more in reality.

You are right in that it's more immediately noticable in Minecraft, but because its base state is so primitive. We've sorta passed that threshold where games look clunky in general. I suspect pretty soon we will hit the developers ability threshold before the technological one.

Gears 5 was already one of the best looking games this gen to begin with, so it's hard to imagine a massive difference.

A nothing article. Obviously the implementation of RDNA 2 is different. Other than that there are no facts showing wh it isn't full RDNA 2.

Agreed. I just posted because Louise is a dev, and was just refuting the implications of the piece.

A few musings about Lockhart:
  • If it's not $299 or less, don't bother. If PS5 is $399 and over double the TF, Lockhart would not be a good value proposition at anything but $100 less (or more)
  • Current 4K TV market share is 53-54%. Estimated by EOY 2020 (Corona Virus notwithstanding) should be above 60%. Since Lockhart focus is not 4K/60, seems like this kit is either the value console for folks that don't care and/or the console for a shrinking market thus should be priced accordingly to shift as many units as possible.
  • Good news is that if the price is right and you buy in (4K TV or no), you should be getting a pretty nice piece of kit (Fast CPU, Capable GPU, RT in hardware, Fast SSD). You'll likely just be relegated to 1080p/60 for demanding games...which may end up being fine for most folks.
Hopefully some info on this will hit soon.
