This will likely be what? More hardware talk, maybe Lockhart? Services like online, gamepass, streaming, etc?

No clue, I was just expecting the their first party show in July. Whatever it is, they’re better off just releasing it on the day without hype rather than setting expectations. Their info drops were better received that way. I honestly think they’ve had a rethink after the poor reception of the 3rd party Inside Xbox event.
A lot of people are praising the professional quality of Sony’s show so I hope they up their game on their presentation going forward as although it’s the games that counts, I do think devs sitting in their kitchens (although understandable at the time) isn’t the best way to promote the new Xbox. Not sure what the situation is in America but lockdown is easing up in Europe so by July I should imagine they could get a few devs into a studio one at a time to record any messages they want to convey.

Xbox fans will remain Xbox fans. Microsoft won't be bringing over PS fans no matter how many awesome games they announce. PS fans will still say Xbox has no games. And Xbox fans will just keep playing those "no games" and enjoying them.

There is no reason they can't win over fans like that. They did it with the 360.

Didn't the 360 win over fans for being cheaper and coming out a year early? I guess when you look at the Xbox OG being discontinued right away after 24 million and then selling 86 million, I guess some of them were PS fans.

You ignoring how stupid a 4TF alternative is the most stupid.
Depends what it can do. If it can do everything the XSX and PS5 can do but at 1080P then it is far from stupid. Need to wait to see what it actually is first.

Think about it. A console that does everything the PS5 & XSX can do but at 1080P for $300.

The difference between MS announcing 1st party titles and PS, is that MS usually announces them if they are coming within the year. PS tends to announces titles that will launch anytime.
True. But doesn't matter. The real difference is PS announces new IPs often. MS announces them rarely...when was Xboxs last big new IP? Sea of Theives back in 2016?

Well they announced Everwild, one of their new big IPs from RARE, at X019 in November. They need to do better than that though.

I don't think it will do everything the XSX and PS5 will do at the same fidelity/performance @1080p.

We do need to wait cause it could be higher than 4TF,IF MS has any sense it will be.

I have doubts that it can aswell.

Xbox has no new IPs is the actual narrative, but typical Xbox retort to twist it around.

Certainly Xbox have got to bring it with the games this gen no doubt. Personally I want to see new IPs and I do think they’ll come with the number of studios they now have. I can understand them bringing back fable because we never had one this generation and it does have brand recognition and a fresh studio with new ideas and two generations later, who knows what that could be like but apart from that I want new games. I don’t see why the big first party devs such as the coalition and 343 can’t work on other games as well Halo and Gears. Naughty Dog was able to do it with The Last of Us whilst making Uncharted and Playground are apparently doing the same. I’m hoping MS have a couple of surprises up their sleeve and I honestly think they recognise what they have to do and are intent on doing it. With Gamepass the strategy going forward, they know it’s content that counts.

Right, they need new IP like Horizon 2 or Spiderman 2ish or GT Eleventeen to keep up with Sony. /Sarcasm

The problem is the few new IPs they have had haven't been hits. They need more new IP and to leverage more if the IP they have and make them into good games.

Not knocking Sony, they finished the PS3 gen strong with The Last of Us and have had some absolutely quality games this gen but the big highly acclaimed AAA games thIs gen were God of War 4, Uncharted 4 and Horizon Zero Dawn and Spider-Man to a lesser extent. Only Horizon was a new IP (Spiderman pretty much like fable, new dev working on an older franchise) but as you say they leveraged their existing IP brilliantly.
I’m really hopeful Halo Infinite could be something special and the Coalition are establishing themselves nicely now, Gears looked great visually but I think that needs to go into hibernation for a generation. The Coalition could be a great pick to work on a new IP and who knows what the Initiative are working on. I think the future is bright for Xbox first party and with all these games launching on Gamepass the Xbox is going to be very tempting this generation. Definitely all to play for imo.

If rumours are true then MS is f***ed anyway. The rumours suggest xbox has very few new IPs to show. So expect the same narrative as this gen.

Nah. They just need great games. If Halo is back from mediocrity while Fable, Perfect Dark and Pillars of Eternity re-imaginings look great, won't matter that those aren't "new IPs".

The IPs that will have driven the most mindshare for Sony this gen were God of War, Uncharted, Spider-man and soon...Last of Us 2.

Realistically, only the initiative (rumoured to be doing Perfect Dark), Obsidian (Rumoured to be working on a familar title), and Ninja theory could have something new, but unlikely to come anytime soon.

I kinda agree with both of you. Bringing back established IPs will be like comfort food for the faithful while new IPs will bring a new base in and help to dispel the narrative that all Xbox has is Halo, Gears and Forza.

But in both your cases the games have to be well crafted quality. No more unpolished, unfinished, unfocused games.

Bringing back older IPs is fine, but they need to address the issue that has plagued the platform for the last decade first.

Halo is comfort food...sure. If rumors are true:
- Perfect Dark going from FPS to 3rd person action stealth
- Pillars of Eternity going from a 2D isometric to Bethesda open world - ala Fallout 2 to Fallout 3
- Fable complete reimagining

Most gamers haven't even played those IPs.

There not new. How are old games new.

They would be new games. Building new games off of existing source material doesn't make them not new games.

This is a really s***ty narrative that only recently started by trolls and system warriors due to rumors. Previous narrative was that Microsoft never stuck with IP to make it better the way Naughty Dog was able to with Uncharted 1 to 2.

Examples used: Ryse, Quantum Break, Alan Wake, Sunset Overdrive, Recore and Lost Odyssey.

Truth is Microsoft needs to do both.

Great games with a lot of potential.

Only one of those got a sequel..and what a sequel it is. Xbox abandons new IP's way too soon and often. They're looking for hits, but for some franchises the second game could be that home run.

They fked up not making sequels to Lost Odyssey, Blue Dragon and Alan Wake this generation. Those could've been staple franchises for Xbox next to Halo, Forza and Gears.

That would be my issue with them. New IPs are good but I don't want them dropped if they didn't sell 10 million in the first week. That and their previous unwillingness to let their devs have any creative freedom. You mention Naughty Dog and if Microsoft had them and didn't bail on Uncharted after 1 game they would have just kept them on it forever and not let them do anything else.

Don't forget Sea of Thieves...

...but yes, I agree. It's about taking a new IP and giving the devs a chance to iterate and allow it to reach it's max potential. That means giving devs the time and not rushing to hit dates. That means taking lessons learned and making games better with the sequel. New IPs are exciting because they're new opportunity. I'd argue that Microsoft has a lot of dead IPs that have a ton of unrealized potential and opportunity in them. There's only a sliver of the gaming population that's played most of those dead IPs.

People are excited to buy Playstation 5's right now due to Horizon 2, Ratchet, GT and Demon Souls. The big rumored counter-punch for August is Silent Hill and Final Fantasy exclusives. The games that drove sales of the Nintendo Switch were Zelda, Mario, Pokemon, Animal Crossing, Mario Kart and SSBM.

To be fair, I think some people who say "new IPs" when referring to Xbox are talking about IP that isn't Halo, Gears and Forza. Microsoft has relied on too few IPs for too long. Those IPs also haven't evolved a ton this generation. Most gamers want more variety and quality from Xbox. Me too. We'll get that.
