About the pricing....i think that rumor is plausible. Don't know if its credible. But it's not impossible. That price point will likely cost Microsft about 3 billion or more in the first 2 years. If that 3 billion leads to better mindshare, the halo effect will drive faster awareness of Xcloud and improve the Game Pass brand awareness in general leading to more subscriptions on PC. They're pushing all in with expenses to reach a tipping point with Xcloud and Game Pass before anyone else pushes them.

I'm expecting huge spending from Xbox either way. Just don't know how they're splitting that up. Don't expect them to be profitable over the next couple years. They're in growth mode.

Personally I'd prefer less hit on hardware if it means more investment in content...but maybe this is the right balance to both.

What if MS were to partner up with EA to let them have Respawn make mech warrior/battle-tech but in reality it’s really titanfall 3? They got SEGA to make halo wars 2.

Ah I get where you're going...and yeah I agree, internal studios are much more likely to build on something. Continue to support a game.

If you want a new IP that has opportunity to get sequels, then why not just reboot a dormant IP? Will be a new experience to most people. The name brings in better mindshare and therefore has a better chance of succeeding. New IPs are really hard to gain mindshare with unless its a multiplayer game.

I'm not expecting Fable to match the classic games in many ways outside of being in a fantasy setting and the world name being Albion.

I don't think Perfect Dark will be anything like either classic. It will probably have a female lead named Joanna in a scifi universe and we might run into an alien named Elvis...and even that last part is questionable.
Or better yet, give new IPs a chance. Slapping a name on a game that it has very little connection with isn't good. I got not problem with rebooting long gone beloved franchises, but new IPs for Xbox should be the focus right now. It is the biggest criticism Xbox has.

New IPs are the lifeblood of gaming. All your favourite games, all the massive sellers, every game ever was a new IP at some point.

3 billion is chump change in the bigger picture. Xbox's whole philosophy is subs, subs, subs. So, yeah. Taking hardware losses seems kind of inevitable in order to push subs.

What if they reboot Mechassault in Japan and go crazy with it. Chromehounds like controller..drama story. Big multiplayer with focus on customization and clans.

Would people be ok if an all digital XSX was released at the same price as the Blu-ray variant but it included 2tb of storage?
Unless game files are going to shrink alot more than I expect, then the 1TB SSD isn't big enough to begin with. So, I doubt anybody would have issues with your proposition.

Microsoft gone fck around and drop dat $399 holla!
It sounds more like a contingency incase sony went that low. What is interesting, is what does MS do now since PS5 has no price. Maybe they just say f*** it, $400 bitches! or maybe tgey change their plans and don't give a price. or maybe tgey risk it and say $500 and hope Sony can't go lower.

Don't put mechassault with chromehounds.
If you want anything Mechassault, this is as close as you're going to get:

Isn't Crackdown made by third party studios?

I think he is talking about games that started this gen. Doesn't seem like a valid complaint to me. Ryse and Quantum Break don't deserve sequels. Sunset Overdrive would have but they would have had to lock Insomniac into one before Sony came calling.

Wasn't complaing. Just pointing out a trend. There are more to...like Lost Odyssey from last gen. A really good game that just needed modernising a little to make it more appealing to a wider audience.

Ryse was Ok too. It had plenty of places it could go in a sequal.

Good things can happen if you stick by a game and build on it. Look at the Souls series, it started as a niche low selling game in Demon Souls (less than 2 million sold) to being a 10 million sales game in Dark Souls 3. They did that by listening to their community and those who didn't like it.

Biggest criticism from a few Youtubers doesn't matter. When people say new IP, the context is IP that isnt Halo, Gears and Forza. Not IP they never heard of before. Anectodatally I hear more request to bring back dormant IP. Data shows new IP doesn't move platforms. That's why both Sony and Nintendo traditionally attempt new big IPs during the back half of their console gens. That's why Sony announced no new 1st party IPs last week. Established IP sells platforms. Xbox was in a different situation with their established IPs because they over-used and fatigued them.

A few youtubers, lol. It is far bigger than that.

When people say new IP they mean new IP.

I agree, established franchises move consoles. New IPs get the massses excited. Remember tge Gears of War hype? But I guess that did nothing. Remember all your friends getting excited over Halo, Forza, etc.

Have to say, it is hilarious how xbox gamers dismiss exclusives like they are nothing. Without them Xbox wouldn't exist today.

But that's the point. Mechassault's gameplay was basic. You might as well try something different. Take some element from Chromehounds that can get people excited for this new iteration.
Mechassault is part of the Battletech universe. The top-down view is something that would translate well to consoles at the time... That said, I don't really see AAA in that style anymore. I could be proven wrong, but I'd also rather have a cockpit view than the arcade-y top-down view of the old ones for Xbox.

Gears and Halo are literally the only brand new IPs that moved consoles in the past 2 decades. Gears also came out 1.5 years after launch and I'd argue was more along for the ride. Was part of a mix of exciting games. CoD and Halo 3 were the console movers. Point is, it didn't move consoles because it was a new IP. There's literly no evidence to show that something never heard of before excites gamers any more than an inspired sequel or great reimagining.

Mech Assult would need to be reimagined. The console version wasn't very deep. The universe is expansive however and Mech Warrior and Battletech (strategy game) show the amount of depth that can be applied to the IP. Some hybrid of those games that has RPG elements would be great.

Never said more. But after 10 years of the same stuff? Yeah!! And are they the only 2? Halo sells like 10 million, gears like 5, but no other titles contributed to the 100 million install base the 360 had? That is just ridiculous.

If they don't make new IPs how can they ever have another Halo? They can't. Like I said before, New IPs are the life blood of gaming. Loolk what Bungie did when they moved away from MS, they created another huge blockbuster. A blockbuster that got millions upon millions of gamers excited.

Not to mention they have a limited supply of old IPs

You caan keep down playing them all you want, it doesn't change how important they are. It doesn't change that it is the biggest criticism Xbox has.
