Does it have RT cores? The GPU is what is taking the big performance hit.

Cpu is much more powerful. The X1X cpu is basically just an overclocked version of the same s*** cpu in the X1.
Yeah, the CPU is the big difference... I don't know for sure about RT cores, and maybe I should walk that talk back, for now. Some of these new reports are saying hardware RT, but who knows if that is even correct, with no clear confirmation that this machine even exists from Microsoft, and so much is being rehashed from Tom Warren... I mean, I do keep hearing that the GPU is like a scaled back version of the XSX GPU from several sources, like not just The Verge, but Thurrott and Windows Central peeps.

You can do hardware ray tracing with CUs.

For sure. That is exactly what it is likely to be.

Yeah, same basic architecture but a lot fewer CUs and lower clocks sounds about right. Still not entirely sold on having two different SOCs in production for launch but if they've been manufacturing long enough to get XSX supply and can get the XSS done in the subsequent months it might work out. Or they could just be paying for even more fab time, which might contribute a tiny amount to the rumored production issues with PS5 - if the capacity available to them is less than they anticipated, and they're doing a single SOC with high overclocks that would render lower yields, it's a reasonable guess that any event that slows production could have an outsized impact.

I mean, those rumors of half the price can't be correct, can they? If so, this thing could replace all of the Xbox Ones IMMEDIATELY! You know, since it runs Xbox One games natively already (and currently supported BC going back to OG), and it seems likely to me to hit the Xbox One X spec while doing it, while also running the next gen games nearly identical, just at a lower resolution?... Which brings me back to the price. All of the sudden, this thing is kind of a game-changer at that kind of similar to (or cheaper than?) current price, if true.

Not to mention there’s millions of kids who play consoles in their bedrooms and I’d say the vast majority of those are playing on HD TVs. Not 4K and let’s be honest, buying an XSX or PS5 for a HD tv is overkill.

Sure they can.

I think this has been their plan the whole time. And apparently moving forward it will be cheaper to make the Lockhart than it is to make the S/XSX.

If I were Microsoft, I'd call Lockhart the Xbox One Plus (all-digital) , as it completely replaces the need for any other Xbox One, while being 100% compatible with next gen.

I know that some will say that it sells the system short, and it kind of does, but it also makes a clear distinction between itself and the Series X. Especially since it also seems to be cheaper than a lot of current Xbox One models.

What if it’s really just an Xbox one x slim? It’ll share the same design philosophy of the series x but much smaller, with a regular 1tb ssd, and sold at Walmart for 199.99

I kind of thought that when I first heard of Lockhart, actually. I didn't realize how much in common it would have with Series X back then, though. Still, that doesn't mean they cannot market it as "The most powerful Xbox One ever made!", and "Now plays Series X games, too"

I'm still expecting hateful posts for my Xbox One Plus naming choice, but I just don't personally like Series S as a name that much, and it's much easier to upsell an understated name.

Doesn't make much sense.

Everything we have heard sufggests it is an XSX but with a scaled back GPU and ram amount.

i agree but to me the series s doesn’t make sense to me either. MS can afford to sell the XSX at a XSS price, if they really want to claim the world...they’ could sell a unit to every American and U.K. soul but they’d have to expand their market to countries that PS is also sold in to reach more and new fans

Being able to afford to doesn't make it a good idea. selling something at a lower price than it costs to produce means you have to subsidise losses with other streams of income while still making lots of money. Gamepass can only do so much with only 10 million subs. Live subs likely wouldn't help much. Think about it, 3to 400$ loss on every console totalling lets say 20 million in the fiirst year. That is a crap tonne of losses.

Not sure how the XSS doesn't make sense. If it was all the info says it is, then it makes perfect sense.

i get ya on that... maybe I’m just stray believer that tech, with time, becomes cheaper because of tech. Like there’s a strong possibility that in a few years, less than five, we’ll see a new smaller version of the xsx because it’ll be on an even smaller nano meter scale and be using less of almost everything that made the first xsx.

I won’t be convinced to accept its existence even if and when it becomes reality.

if it’s a thing then it may have one advantage over the xsx and ps5. If it’s playing games at 1080 or less and or at 60fps or less with the same SSD as the xsx then it may load games even faster, or like spawning in a map for multiplayer before anyone else using those other consoles or pc...kinda like how lowering the details on a pc game to its bare minimum so it’ll play faster and you could spot enemies sooner because the tall grass and shrubs are gone, except for the now balled trees :p

It will get cheaper over time, all mass Produced products do. But to get it to a point where it no longer looses money would be way too far off. If we were only talking 100 buckss lost per console then may be in 2 years those losses would cease.

It actually has a far bigger advantage, price. Also, iit has mass market appeal. Why spend twice as much for stuff you don't care about, or that you can't take advantage of.

Personally, i'm very interested in the XSS. I 'm in no hurry to jump on the 4K bandwagon. So a next gen 1080p console at £250- £300 is mighty appealing.

Weird choice for the music, lol. Looks kinda cool.

Not to take away from the indie game, but it's definitely not doing anything to show off the SeX. That looks like it could be done on a PS3....

true, reminds me of Rez from Dreamcast....I’m getting some cool vibes like that of Rez for visuals, Inside for atmosphere and Ori for maneuverability, would be cool if it’s like Metroid in 3D

I’m digging the music tho, when she started singing it threw me off for a moment and then it just clicked

I just read the article.........

"The Kobe Bryant-fronted Mamba Forever Edition is available across all platforms for $99.99/£84.99, and will feature a host of extra digital content. In addition, anyone who purchases this version can get the standard version of the game on the other generation at no extra cost (within the same console family) -- so, for example, if you buy the PS4 Mamba Forever Edition of the game, you can get the STANDARD version on PS5 as part of the package."

I'm glad I don't really play sports games because holy sh*t.
