Yakuza Series

Yeah, I agree, the voice acting is really good. In the past, I have had a hard time understanding why some people would prefer to play with the original Japanese voices, when they could have English-speaking voice actors and do without subtitles. I get it now. The emotional tone gets carried much better by the Japanese voice actors.

Have you seen the footage of Yakuza 6? After seeing the trailers/gameplay I'm really excited for it, yeah the framerate has been cut in half and the resolution is down to 900p on standard PS4 but they made a pretty big improvement in the visuals.

Just got done playing Kiwami for a few hours tonight, time really goes by fast when playing these games ;)

I haven't seen it yet, no. I'm taking a Yakuza break, don't want to burn out on the franchise. I'll get to Kiwami in half a year or so, then Kiwami 2 later. It'll be a while until I get to 6.

Same deal with anime. It was meant to be in Japanese so some people prefer the Japanese voices. Been watching some anime lately, think i lean towards English dub just because i don't feel like reading. Feels like a distraction, lol.

Finished the game tonight and loved it, I can't wait for Yakuza 6 next year although I do wish they'd delay it and start releasing all of the games here in order first, obviously with Yakuza 6 style graphics upgrades though :)

Yakuza 6 preview.

Good to hear you can avoid or run away from the endless street fights. Got annoying in the last one's I played cause most ood the time I wanted to get stuck into the story.

By the way, Yakuza 4 and 5 are coming to PS Now, if anyone wants to play them prior to 6.

Looking forward to this, and to finishing Yakuza 6 next month.

Cool. I might skip the Kiwamis and just jump to Yakuza 6. I loved Yakuza 0, but when I tried to play Kiwami recently, I got turned off, because I didn't feel like going through another game with that same combat system. I'm not much of a brawler fan, and although I enjoyed Yakuza 0's fighting, I felt like once was enough for that. Didn't want to do it again.

Haven't even played Kiwami yet but Yakuzu 0 was awesome. Now Yakuza 6 is coming out, lol. Where do people even find the time for all these games. It's crazy man. Always thought it was comical when people said PS fans don't buy their games. Well how many PS gamers are either rich, or don't work and have no family or both? I'm guessing not many. If you got priorities, greatness ain't for you.

But not Nintendo switch.

To be realistic about what happened... Nintendo Wii U was a major failure... We are always on the lookout to support multiplatform as much as possible... We know that it brings an additional audience... On the other hand, as far as the Nintendo Switch is concerned, I'm convinced that this is not the ideal platform on which to develop Yakuza games... Regarding the Xbox One, we can possibly consider it, knowing Xbox One users may be more likely to be interested in a game like Yakuza. This could potentially be an option.

It's a great series, it would be awesome for Xbox if Sega were to release the games on the platform. Sadly so far only Yakuza 6 has any PS4 Pro enhancements though and those are pretty light, hopefully if they do bring the series to xbox they put some time into some One X enhancements as well.

Yakuza on Switch seems like a perfect fit to me.

I have to disagree, it's heavily cinematic and you have to read a lot of subtitles so that makes playing it in portable mode kind of a bust. Switch ownership still skews younger and that's not who this game is made for. Plus it seems like a lot of older switch owners are multi console owners, it'd be easier/cheaper to port the games from PS4 to Xbox than having to reduce them even further to work on the switch. They are still working on updating the games for PS4 as it is, adding much weaker hardware to the mix where sales potential is likely very limited doesn't make a lot of sense IMO.

OK you've convinced me to change my mind. Lol

As they said the Wii u version bombed

And the Switch is doing anything but bombing, thus it's a perfect fit. Japanese console, Japanese game.

I'm thrilled that Xbox is getting some of these games but pretty random for a dev to think a Japanese game would have a bigger audience on Xbox than Switch.

Console is doing fine but hasn't stopped some games bombing which is what this did the last time it was released on a Nintendo console.

There’s a joke there I won’t touch :p

I'd want every game released on ps4 and Steve to release on switch , yakuza even more considering I don't own a ps4 anymore. Big open world games (or semi- in this case) are more likely to be finished on a handheld by me tbh.

Yeah, wait, who’s Steve? Steve from accounting?

Good luck reading those subtitles on a handheld, they'd have to be made big enough to read and you'll end up with text paragraphs covering most of the screen lol. It really isn't suited for switch though, at least not enough to make it worth the financial investment to port down and publish it.

Never played it but don’t most notable rpgs have “war and peace” amounts of reading even with voiced over and or dubbed, even on previous Nintendo and Sony portables?

Probably so, I just can't imagine enjoying the story with the text covering half of the screen. I just don't think it's a series meant to be played on a portable console, plus it's really not meant for younger players. I think most older switch owners also own a PS4 or Xbox so they are set if Sega does put this series out on the Xbox One as well as PS4.

do no care about financial investments thing, only want to play great games on my switch. Subs are readable in other games, not sure why you make this a big deal, the developers aren't r******d.

You should know when you buy a Nintendo console not to expect certain types of games, mainly M rated. Just because it's Japanese doesn't mean it's a good fit for switch. You wanting it is totally fine, expecting to get it is another.

I'm not expecting anything, I want it. Doom and Wolfenstein are both gory and great looking even on switch.
