A lot of this seems like stuff that should have been standard in gaming years ago, especially the part about being forced to download audio not meant for your region. Glad they are doing it, just surprised it has taken this long, hopefully Sony does something similar and it becomes an industry standard.

Xbox One X/PS4 Pro Graphical Differences Will Be Visible In Big AAA Games – BetaDwarf

Minion Masters developer expects more stable framerates on the Xbox One X.

Ever since Microsoft shared more details about the Xbox One X, there’s been much discussion about the differences between graphics on the console versus that of PS4 Pro. After all, optimization and graphical enhancements depend on a number of factors like studio resources, the game in question and what have you.

BetaDwarf CEO Steffen Kabbelgaard, who’s company has worked on Minion Masters: Forced To Duel, believes that such graphical differences will likely manifest in bigger, triple-A style titles as opposed to smaller games.

When asked about the differences between the Xbox One X and PS4 Pro – especially as the former boasts a better GPU and more memory bandwidth – and whether these would be visible to the general audience, Kabbelgaard said, “The strength of the Xbox One X is surprisingly big, which logically would mean that the games on the Xbox One would look at lot better than the PS4.

“Chances are that developers that want to go to the limit will edge more towards the Xbox One X because of the relative ease of porting to PC and the other way around with the UWP. The main thing that would keep cutting edge developers away from the Xbox One X would be backwards compatibility, with the original Xbox One being a lot weaker. Then again, the same goes for PS4.”

“Generally, for smaller games the difference will not really matter, but for the big AAA games I do expect a higher, more stable framerate on the Xbox One X, and most likely more games that will be able to run true 4K.”

Then again, even in the triple A field, we’re seeing games like Destiny 2 which are reportedly not going to push the Xbox One X to its limits. Again, it comes down to developer priorities, resources and what they feel could work across all platforms. We’ll have to wait and see how this pans out for all third party games in the coming months.

The Xbox One X releases on November 7th worldwide and will retail for $499.

UWP games are getting access to more horsepower on Xbox One this fall
Friday, Sep 15, 2017 at 2:45 pm EDT

Microsoft is giving UWP game developers access to even more horsepower on Xbox One this fall.

One of the benefits of the convergence of operating systems between Windows and Xbox is that developers can target both platforms with a lot of shared code by leveraging the Universal Windows Platform (UWP) for development. However, games published to Xbox One through the Windows Store have thus far been relatively limited in terms of access to hardware resources on the console. Now, in a move that will please developers, Microsoft has announced it will free up access to more system resources for UWP games on Xbox One this fall.

Currently, UWP games can tap into 4 shared CPU cores, 1GB of RAM, and access to only 50 percent of the GPU for Direct3D11-based games. With the next big update coming to Xbox One this fall, UWP games will now have access to 6 exclusive CPU cores, 5GB of RAM, and full access to the GPU for Direct3D12-based games. Put simply, UWP developers should be able to eek out vastly better performance for their games on Xbox One.

Ultimately, Microsoft says, expanded resource access will have an impact on Windows Store games like Fallout Shelter, which was built on the Universal Windows Platform and is now available across Windows and Xbox One. Similarly, games created as part of ID@Xboxand the Xbox Live Creators Program on UWP will be able to access the extra horsepower as well.

Great work. Too bad indies don't count.

I'm baaaack, but not to normal until tomorrow.

That being said, for anyone interested I'm hearing a No Man's Sky announcement is coming for Xbox soon.

I should note that I do not care personally. But it sounds like they did a lot of updating so respect to them for that.
loved the game on release and while they have added and made certain parts of the game even better, i now don't like having to find extra materials to open boxes that used to just open.

will buy it again for X though.

used the tab in the "my games and apps" section to select Xone Enhanced games, pleasantly surprised to see 353 of the 520 on my HD's will get the enhancements so far.

looking good so far.
I am on the Alpha build and nothing shows for me under this tab....
its changed for me, it used to have 360 by itself, its now changed to 360 and Xbox. i assume that is to show OG Xbox games.

Anyone here going to Milan Games Week next week...? The X will be playable there, but I'm not sure which games yet.

Dude started out his demo trying to kill his own teammate, lol. Going hard at him too.

Tell you now. If Destiny 2 does get a X patch I am going to be the happiest owner ever. This is such a good looking game on the One S as it is and can only look better.

GOTY for me and I tell you now Anthem is going to have to be absolutely amazing to compete. I am also someone that hated D1 with a passion.

Onto XBOX ONE X news. Anyone catch the thread on Gaf where they are pulling apart the One X again over the last 24 hours with perm-ban posting if it was us talking about the PRO..... I don't want to link it but it's full of salty posting.

633,600 more pixels = massive difference
1,152,000 more pixels = generational leap
6,220,800 more pixels = mid generation upgrade

It appears that Star Wars Battlefront II will support 4K on Xbox One X, possibly with a catch

Several months ago I reported that Battlefront II would be 4K on Xbox One, but over the course of development, things changed a little.

I'd read on internal marketing proposals that EA's upcoming Star Wars Battlefront II would be "4K" on Xbox One X, and was a candidate for showcasing the console's power in future marketing materials. Obviously, with Sony having marketing rights to the game for PlayStation, that info became slightly problematic, but the 4K resolution aspect seemed to hold true.

Later, I'd heard that the resolution or, surprisingly, the frame rate, wasn't finalized, and EA and developer DICE were trying a range of configurations on both the X and the PS4 Pro to figure out how best to present the next entry in the franchise.

Now that Battlefront II's Xbox One store listing has been updated (thanks for the tip, @btontour1), it looks as though it will at least feature 4K on the Xbox One X, with an unlocked variable refresh rate (VRR).

At Gamescom 2017, the PlayStation 4 Pro version of Battlefront II was presented at 1080p full HD, at 60 frames per second (via DigitalFoundry). With the Xbox One X version being capable of full 4K with the option of variable refresh rates, it sounds as though Battlefront II might support multiple modes across consoles.

To speculate, perhaps if you select UHD modes, you lose the promise of solid 60 FPS gameplay, trading raw visual opulence for smoothness. I can't imagine those with the X who don't have 4K displays will be pleased with the idea of being forced into using VRR when a solid "enhanced" sub-UHD 60 FPS-locked mode could be achieved instead.

We've reached out to EA for more information on their plans for the Xbox versions of Battlefront II.

Xbox head Phil Spencer has often stated that Microsoft wants the Xbox One X to showcase the best console versions of each and every game, and it certainly looks as though Battlefront II will be among the titles that exemplify that goal.

Isn't VRR dynamic scaling under another name?

Variable refresh rate is just simply an unlocked refresh rate, aka non-capped and non-vsynced. This will prove useful when FreeSync2.0 monitors start coming out and newer HDTV's start supporting HDMI 2.1 spec.

To be honest, every single Xbox One game that isn't locked at 60fps should include this option from this point on; if it doesn't it's a disservice to the hardware.

I even called out the Destiny 2 dev on twitter when talking about 30fps for Xbox One X, "we won't hold back on platforms back, we take advantage of all power and features"... I'm like, "what about VRR? Add an option for unlocked/uncapped to take advantage of VRR on Xbox One X or the lines you're talking are full of s***". lol

Even if a game can't keep a stable 60fps, and bounces around between 35-50 fps for the most part; VRR tech will take advantage of that and make it all appear smooth and have no screen tearing. If Destiny 2 has a dead locked and capped framerate of 30fps on Xbox One, that means it absolutely is able to punch well above 30fps since it probably takes the most intense sections of the game to make that framerate waver at all. Just my guess, but if they unlocked D2, you could definitely see framerates higher than 30fps and would a perfect case to have the option on Xbox One X.

I'm not saying be mad at a developer if they don't add it, but it's certainly an Xbox One X feature and adding it is literally a non-factor as far as implementation and will absolutely help future proof the game. Imagine if all of those 360 games had uncapped framerates from 360? Almost every game capped at 30fps would've been able to play at higher framerates, maybe even 60fps when playing BC on Xbox One X.

So, I'm super glad to see a developer taking the initiative, hopefully they retroactively do the same for Battlefield 1; which looks so much better with the recent HDR update.

Yeah. Now we have a good feeling about future compatibility, devs should code for optional unlocked framerates...and user selectable resolutions. Beats waiting for patches

It'll get an X1X update don't worry, people tried stoking that fire for clicks and drama, well that or their own personal victim complex wouldn't let them admit that it's just part of marketing deals that you generally don't talk about another platform, especially one that won't be out until nearly two months after the game launches.
