Yeah, we caught you here. Just a few posts back you said...

"not only did MS' first party stuff seem to be the best of the big two"

Microsoft's E3 conference was essentially "More of the same for the current generation" and "Doing things differently for 2020 and beyond."

In case you haven't been paying attention, Microsoft hasn't been competing with Sony for the majority of this gen. Few, if any think "more of the same" is going to alter course for them in the next couple of years. Sony might not have had surprises this year but they had quality in spades.

Bulls*** statement to be sure. If Microsoft had shown the same games from 2016 today, they would've been massacred. Sony had s*** to show. No new IP's, just the same stuff we've known were coming before. Clearly the games still look excellent, but I'm not giving them a pass just because their Sony. Fuk that.

They did...in fact, they showed a game from 2014

They are held to different standards because Sony has actually delivered

Please stay on topic and stop with the VS conference because that will be a battle that no one will ever be happy with... even though I wasn't impressed with SONY conference.

I don't want to see this thread to be closed so please stop.

"Please stop with the VS talk ... btw, Sony lost." lol

If I couldn't game in 2 years or the world is going to end before that I would be disappointed but neither of that is true(I hope). There are more than enough games coming out between now and 2020 that I can enjoy on my Xbox majority of which are going to be multiplatform games which are going to look and run better on the X. If you are PS owner who wanted a reason to get an X now MS didn't give you a reason this E3 but as far as MS is concerned they probably already lost you this gen. What they are doing is trying to make sure that they get you next gen

Yeah, they're doing a good job of that.

DF has a cool video about MS's conference showings. Interesting talk about the division 2. I love that the grass collides better, and stays flattened after you walk on it. Also the X version is said to be extremely close to the PC version, visually aside from the usual 30 fps vs 60.

I want to watch that, but I am at work and can't have the volume up. I will look at it later!

Let's put it to you another way. The top 3 to 4 games at the Sony conference will average out to about a 91 on Metacritic. All of which will be new IP or once removed from being new IP (The Last of Us 2) The top 3 to 4 games from Microsoft's conference will average out to be around an 84 on Metacritic and all of those will be from franchises past their third installment.

I think that conference just highlighted the fact that Sony has been in another league from Microsoft for a while now and that doesn't appear to be changing during this generation.

Once 2020 rolls around it's a whole new ballgame though. Does that make sense?

And the devs I talked to were very clear to let me know what we played was pre-alpha (in a 20 minute convo he must have told me that 3 or 4 times). Maybe DF saw something else, but what we played was great, and it can only get better.

Hoping the beta is sooner rather than later, but probably Fall.

It was best E3 presentation possibly of all time, I'll give Microsoft that. Incredible flow, no cringe moments, and it was just games games and more games.

But for me personally it would only have been the best Xbox presentation if a segment was dedicated to new hardware (Elite controller, stream to phones feature) and a stage demonstration of new Halo like Forza got.

Just imagine of those 5 recently aquired studios would have been over a year ago and we got a glimpse of 5 new AAA games coming to only Xbox.

I look at it like this, if you want the best platform for your multiplatform titles, Game pass sounds great, BC is important, and you love Halo/Gears/Forza then duh....Xbox One X all day.

If you want more unique SP titles that score really high than you go PS4.

I hear you but I left the presentation/FanFest/E3 excited more than anything.

Lots of great games (exclusive and multiplat) coming in the next 1-2 years. I played all the big ones I could and honestly I think people will really like them.

PS 5 and Scarlet are coming around that time, and with the foundation they are laying, they could have a great launch lineup.

It’s a good time to be a gamer.

There should be a thread where you and GordoSan detail your ventures through those halls....

I’m up for that if he is. But for now I’ll just say this: the FanFest was a total class act, and way more than I expected. I’ll go into details later.

E3 is a sh*t show. It’s 1000 degrees, and it’s overrun with people. You have to get in line just to get in line! 2-3 hour wait lists to play popular games are common. If I were to go again, I’d sign up for play times months in advance because that’s the only way you’re getting to play them.

EA Play was cool but Anthem wasn’t playable, only BF V.

The only reason I got to play so many games was because of the FanFest. They gave us plenty of time, 2 free drinks, and time to chat with devs while playing their games. Very, very cool.

I'm starting to think E3 may have outlived it's usefulness and these "fan fest" types of events would be better. Maybe have MS and Sony do their own things around April or May and then both attend Paris Games Week or something like that. E3 is too close to the European shows now and it doesn't leave enough time for anything to significantly change. Plus all of these games end up having hands on events for journalists at some point anyway (well the major ones do) so why bother with this?

Agreed. I just really wish I got to play more games.

So, just so you guys know, Rollins had a friend that ended up not going to Fanfest, and he was actually kind enough to offer me the other ticket. Well, unfortunately, they do not allow you to transfer your guest. Seems kinda lame, considering they give you a short response time to confirm, once they've picked you. Not bitter though... it just would have worked out perfect, and I would have been over the moon. Anyway, it was honestly cool to see how they treated their fans for Fanfest. It's truly above and beyond. I'll let him describe that stuff, but the swag alone was really impressive. The briefing itself, was actually 10 X cooler in person. The theater is quite nice, and the AV is superb!

However, I told Rollins that if I wanted to only go to E3, I would maybe have gone the last day of it, when the crowds died down. Having only gone the first day, it honestly was kinda like having the choice of either watching other people playing the games and observing, or waiting for an hour or more to play a single game demo... which is even harder than you'd think. I started at the Nintendo both, and it had a line just to get in and wait in other lines. They had a stamp card, where you got some trinket for playing 6 games. I quickly played Mario Tennis (because I don't have a Switch), then walked over to Starlink. I waited in that line for like I dunno, 45 minutes and finally there was a single guy in front of me who just kept playing, and the guy kept helping him and I'm just like looking at my watch like "are you ever gonna cut him off?". After I have no idea how long, I could not even look at the screen a single minute more and bailed out of the increasingly packed area after waiting forever. It just didn't matter anymore. Forget the line to play Smash Bros.! No thank you!

so yeah, with that many people, they should set reservation times for everything, IMO.

So yeah, I was saying this earlier. They either need two shows, or extend E3 itself, letting the fans go go a lot later. Even the media and industry only got three hours before the fans on Tuesday, which seems outrageous to me. I suspect something will be changed, because this did not work.

Edit: and yeah, earlier in three year would be good.

I will try to post some pictures tomorrow, if I have time. I will say that Shadow of the Tomb Raider looks and plays beautifully! But it's as expected. Everything at the Microsoft Experience was running on Xbox SDK, except Forza simulator which was running on PC.

I am glad Crackdown 3 finally got a release date. The trailer they showed look promising. But still was mostly scripted, so I want to see more actual gameplay.

I'm surprised at what they showed. I expected them to give it a proper showing and finally show off the multiplayer and the epic destruction they championed a few years a go.

Yeah E3 was always a tricky one, the press never has been happy with how crowded it was even before it was open to the public and now it sounds like it's even more of a madhouse.

Something must be up with that game, it did look better and I'm glad they made it look a little flashier but this was a game that supposedly was going to release last November and it still didn't get anything more than a tacky trailer. That guy Matt at resetera who was a confirmed insider when he was on neogaf says that the game was never in a position to release last year and but that MS refuses to cancel it because of bad PR.

So why give it a release date in the first place.
