I was hoping to enjoy some Battlefield on the Xbox One tonight but my experience was hampered by several issues which made me give up.

The following things keep happening:
-I get a 'No Free Commander Slots' message whenever I try to join a seemingly open server
-Sometimes I click on a seemingly open game and nothing happens
-If I am lucky enough to find an open server, the game has crashed on me twice while switching to the next multiplayer map after a match has finished, and once during a match.

Anybody else experiencing this or find any work around?

I've played about 10 games of conquest and its smoother and less time outs than the 360 plus it's not locked my console yet like the 360 but yeah there are glitches need addressing.

First game after the lengthy download/install... map loads, game crashes.

Are they going to blame Sony's firmware for this one too?

edit: More game crashes than matches so far.

Lucky yall. Just be grateful you are playing at all. Battlefield 4 on PS4 has had zero people playing online since day one because DICE messed up something big. It's a shame DICE couldn't get the multiplayer nice and functional for these next gen consoles. It's killing me inside.

Same thing happening to me all night. Only managed to finish two games without getting dropped.

I guess it's a good thing I having by bought this game yet for the Xbox One?

I played for a good while last night. I mostly play squad Dm and I did not have one issue. I also played a few matches on the 2nd assault maps and they played fine as well. The sand storm on Oman was a nice surprise. I will try conquest tonight to see if its related to that mode.

It's either a glitch sometimes or the server has already picked people to fill in. Say if it's like 25/32 people, there's already seven the Matchmaking has filled in/reserved in the background & they aren't in yet. The servers fill people in a lot fast, but don't refresh/reflect that immediately. Also, it's simply buggy sometimes.

Early problems again.

Welcome to Battlefield 4, the game EA pushed through quality testing to beat Call of Duty to release date. They issued a letter of apology, but that still doesn't make it right. All it does is make them look bad when they release such a hyped up game then it's sloppy as heck.

Don't get me wrong, BF4 is pretty awesome when it does work, it has potential, but every single system it's on it's crashing/locking up/tons of bugs glitches. I mean, almost every single game I went into last night crashed me to the Home screen withing five minutes of being in it, even games with no vehicles like Domination, etc.

They'll make it better over time, but I think they are going to have to do some serious updating because most of the stuff is done server side now & EA's servers have always sucked balls.

That is absolutely not true at all. There were a few days when EA's servers were down due to that denial of service attack, but only Conquest mode is broken with DICE sending out a patch for that next week.

That is absolutely not true. Everything was affected.

It's unfortunate to see everyone having problems but I guess it's reassuring knowing that it's not just me.

The game has potential but I feel pretty helpless with the starting gun/scope. And it doesn't help that I can't earn experience points since the game keeps crashing.

Yeah everything WAS affected when the servers were down, like I said. Now only Conquest mode is still broken (it crashes). You said "Battlefield 4 on PS4 has had zero people playing online since day one." That is not even remotely true.

Try some of the smaller maps/gametypes on servers near you in the server browser. Check the gametype, leave the maps empty/not checked, check all the server sizes, Normal mode, Official Servers, check the server nearest you, leave Commander box unchecked, then back out/refresh it. Some Dominations/Deathmatches/Squad Deathmatches are finishing ok. Mostly the stuff that has vehicles/more players is crashing 2x as often currently.

Also, this game is about attachments. The first gun they give you is actually pretty good, the AK-12 as far as Assault rifles go.

*If you want some tips: (go to a BF4 gun stats page to see official stats)

-All guns in BF4 work like this:
a.) They have Vertical Recoil
b.) They have Horizontal Recoil
c.) They have a first shot multiplier (usually between 1-3)
d.) Each gun has an up close damage, then a drop-off damage over range
e.) Certain attachments have benefits (i.e. Silencer decreases damage over range, but hides you on mini-map, laser is hipfire bonus, etc.)

-So listen up, look up your gun. A great all around grip is the Stubby Grip. That is 15% zoomed in Accuracy increase. Here is where it gets tricky. Look up your gun you're using then. You need to find if the Vertical Recoil is really high, the left/right Horizontal Recoil, or the first shot multiplier is high.

So say for instance your AK-12 has a high Vertical Recoil (just using this as an example), what works great on that is a Stubby Grip + Muzzle Brake. Why? Well, look at what each thing does. Muzzle Brake is something like 30% decrease in Accuracy, but 30% less Vertical Recoil. So you pair that with a Stubby Grip & you're getting the 30% reduction in the high Vertical Recoil with only a 15% hit in Accuracy since the Stubby Grip is taking away 15% of the decrease in Accuracy.

Now, if the gun has a high left/right Horizontal Recoil, pair up the Stubby Grip with the Compensator instead.

-If the gun has a high first shot multiplier, like the AEK, you might want to try it with an Angled or Folding grip instead, that takes the first shot reduction down by 33%. Each time your first set of bullets go out, you're countering that first shot multiplier greatly.

-On DMR's always use the Angled Grip or Folding Grip because like I said, first shot reduction is reduced 33% and every shot on a DMR is a first shot, duh!

-On the Domination/TeamDeathmatch maps, since they are all smaller, it's good to do what I said, but then use a Silencer. You are hidden from the mini map & the gun feels a bit smoother over all.

-The Kobra sight zooms in the fastest over a Red Dot as well.

-If you like more "up-in-your-face" gameplay similar to Call of Duty or if you know you're playing smaller maps/gametypes, you may enjoy the Laser Sight and/or Ergo style grips as those are more for run & gun/from the hip style shooting without zooming in. Like I said before, even though the Silencer over range decreases the gun's strength greatly & slows down the bullets slightly, it is highly beneficial to use that on small maps instead of Laser/Ergo because it is a fairly large advantage to not appear on the mini-map as people always watch that.

-Flash Hider is rather useless because read it carefully, all it does is remove your bullet tracers, NOT your mark from the mini-map. Basically they just don't see the bullets when they are coming across the map.

-Don't underestimate equipment. Throwing a Claymore down or using the upgraded 40% range on a T-UGS motion sensor once you unlock that Specialization during the match can be HUGE on smaller maps.

-Remember that other motion sensors on the map spot your equipment now, the MAV no longer auto shows people on the mini-map under it unless you're controlling it at the time (i.e. you can't just set it up on a building anymore as a motion sensor), and there are Specializations to walk through motion sensors now as long as you're not Sprinting.

-The MAV is great for jamming/taking out pesky Spawn Beacons/Motion Sensors up high. Hover so you're not moving, lock on, shoot with right trigger.

That screenshot was taken this morning, and it shows all servers, not just conquest, all down and with zero people online for the entire game.

i was playing some conquest, large maps, with 60 + players early this morning, from about 0200 - 0400. I had no issues other than some occasional lag. I did have some problems conecting to anything other than small domination type matches a few hours ago... growing pains i guess. anyway, ive been have a bit of a hard time adjusting from BF3 to BF4, getting good streaks has been a struggle, i think because im not used to 32 bad guys running around at once. its so amazing... when it works i suppose, lol

Maybe the servers were down for maintenance this morning? It works now, was working all day yesterday, etc. (except for the Conquest mode crashing). Again, you stated that there have been "zero people playing online on the PS4 since day one." That is not true at all. Did you mean to say that there are times when the servers have been down and at those times there are zero people playing? Either way what's your PSN ID I'll log on and we can play a game together right now, better than arguing about it...

People are going to blame Sony or MS for the issues with BF4 but has a BF game ever run smoothly online at it's launch? they'll get it working fine on both consoles soon I'm sure.

Yesterday I only got to play half of a match of conquest and then the game froze on me. So I reloaded the game and kept trying to get into a new match but it wouldn't work. I just ended up quick matching domination only to end up getting thrown into TDM. Played that for a bit with no issues, but just seeing those conquest lobbies with 64 players is making me a little impatient. Hopefully they fix it soon.

Is the online currently as junky as it sounds right now? How is Ghosts holding up in terms of functionality? Is that the only working online FPS on X1 right now?

How do you login with an existing origin id? it ask me to create one, but I already have one.

I think building a game for 5 consoles/pc is way to much for Dice to handle.
That and combined with EA's mandate to always ship BF or MoH before CoD. BF or MoH could be in alpha form, but for sake of trying to get as much sales before CoD launches (always the first or second week of Nov), EA green lights the game no matter what.

You guys act like you have never played a BC or BF game this gen , both BC2 and BF3 were complete disasters at launch that took about 4 months or longer to completely fix.
It took them 6 months just to fix the rubber band lag in BC2 even longer to fix the rest of the exploits.

Really? That's terrible. Shame MS didn't get another shooter on the X1. Even if it's just a smaller one like a port of Gotham City Impostors or something like that. Thankfully, Titanfall isn't that far off for X1 owners. Hopefully things run smooth there.
