The game has potential but I feel pretty helpless with the starting gun/scope. And it doesn't help that I can't earn experience points since the game keeps crashing.
Try some of the smaller maps/gametypes on servers near you in the server browser. Check the gametype, leave the maps empty/not checked, check all the server sizes, Normal mode, Official Servers, check the server nearest you, leave Commander box unchecked, then back out/refresh it. Some Dominations/Deathmatches/Squad Deathmatches are finishing ok. Mostly the stuff that has vehicles/more players is crashing 2x as often currently.
Also, this game is about attachments. The first gun they give you is actually pretty good, the AK-12 as far as Assault rifles go.

If you want some tips: (go to a BF4 gun stats page to see official stats)
-All guns in BF4 work like this:
a.) They have Vertical Recoil
b.) They have Horizontal Recoil
c.) They have a first shot multiplier (usually between 1-3)
d.) Each gun has an up close damage, then a drop-off damage over range
e.) Certain attachments have benefits (i.e. Silencer decreases damage over range, but hides you on mini-map, laser is hipfire bonus, etc.)
-So listen up, look up your gun. A great all around grip is the Stubby Grip. That is 15% zoomed in Accuracy increase. Here is where it gets tricky. Look up your gun you're using then. You need to find if the Vertical Recoil is really high, the left/right Horizontal Recoil, or the first shot multiplier is high.
So say for instance your AK-12 has a high Vertical Recoil (just using this as an example), what works great on that is a Stubby Grip + Muzzle Brake. Why? Well, look at what each thing does. Muzzle Brake is something like 30% decrease in Accuracy, but 30% less Vertical Recoil. So you pair that with a Stubby Grip & you're getting the 30% reduction in the high Vertical Recoil with only a 15% hit in Accuracy since the Stubby Grip is taking away 15% of the decrease in Accuracy.
Now, if the gun has a high left/right Horizontal Recoil, pair up the Stubby Grip with the Compensator instead.
-If the gun has a high first shot multiplier, like the AEK, you might want to try it with an Angled or Folding grip instead, that takes the first shot reduction down by 33%. Each time your first set of bullets go out, you're countering that first shot multiplier greatly.
-On DMR's always use the Angled Grip or Folding Grip because like I said, first shot reduction is reduced 33% and every shot on a DMR is a first shot, duh!
-On the Domination/TeamDeathmatch maps, since they are all smaller, it's good to do what I said, but then use a Silencer. You are hidden from the mini map & the gun feels a bit smoother over all.
-The Kobra sight zooms in the fastest over a Red Dot as well.
-If you like more "up-in-your-face" gameplay similar to Call of Duty or if you know you're playing smaller maps/gametypes, you may enjoy the Laser Sight and/or Ergo style grips as those are more for run & gun/from the hip style shooting without zooming in. Like I said before, even though the Silencer over range decreases the gun's strength greatly & slows down the bullets slightly, it is highly beneficial to use that on small maps instead of Laser/Ergo because it is a fairly large advantage to not appear on the mini-map as people always watch that.
-Flash Hider is rather useless because read it carefully, all it does is remove your bullet tracers, NOT your mark from the mini-map. Basically they just don't see the bullets when they are coming across the map.
-Don't underestimate equipment. Throwing a Claymore down or using the upgraded 40% range on a T-UGS motion sensor once you unlock that Specialization during the match can be HUGE on smaller maps.
-Remember that other motion sensors on the map spot your equipment now, the MAV no longer auto shows people on the mini-map under it unless you're controlling it at the time (i.e. you can't just set it up on a building anymore as a motion sensor), and there are Specializations to walk through motion sensors now as long as you're not Sprinting.
-The MAV is great for jamming/taking out pesky Spawn Beacons/Motion Sensors up high. Hover so you're not moving, lock on, shoot with right trigger.
