2024 will bring more layoffs and closures than 2023

After the flop that was Suicide Squad and all the time and resources that went into the game, it would not surprise me if WB cut or eliminated Rocksteady. This is the same WB ceo that shelved complete movies in a cost cutting effort. Heck Rocksteady could end up a support studio on the next Hogwarts game by him.

*Looks at press release* WB is claiming that despite how well Hogwarts did, Suicide Squad contributed to a $200 Million Hit to Revenue! Rocksteady is gone. Or at least it won't be the same by the end of the year.

Many can see suicide square being a flop well before release. I called it out many times here.

C-D listers characters most people don’t care or even know.
Poorly implemented Live service design.
Genetic gameplay.
Controversy plots, insulting A-B listers heroes people cared.

Harley, which some people who care about of the list of c-d listers were mostly due to the sex appeal. ( Personally I think she is most annoying overrated and useless character in DC, but at least I k ow why people like her) They made her not sexy ( you cannot have pretty sexy woman these days in game, even when it was the whole selling point of the char)

They should divest it if they are thinking of closing down Rocksteady.
You have to have financial backing to go independent. They would likely need to be sold to another larger company, but I don't think they are all that attractive post-Suicide Squad and without the Batman franchise available to them.

Maybe they can do another hero game with another IP.

Super Heroes interest are dying. No one below the age of 30 cared about superheroes. If they want comic heroes gameIP, use manga/anime.

In fact I advocate stop calling manga manga . Manga is just Japanese for comic. We should call it comic as they are the mainstream now. American comics should be called Amercian comic, since they are the minority.
American comics are half a bookshelf at my local store Talia, but you have entire sections of manga.

For clarity. He said that they always restructure before the end of their FY. When pointed out these have happened before that he then changed it to him speculating more might happen.
Because he just made himself look clueless.

I work in a big corp with over 150k employees. & god knows how many countries worldwide Restructuring means layout, closure.

Wherever I hear restructuring, I think of bankruptcy restructuring, which generally mean severance and firing.

Another "insider" says July will bring more layoffs and studio closure(s) at PlayStation.

Supposedly this month!
Its Been A Long Time Waiting GIF

I'm curious if all these layoffs are pushing a significant amount of talent out of the industry all together or are they finding/starting new studios to stay in the industry.

There are more games than there are consumers now. Like Mobile phone crush, there can only be this many players.

IMO, most need to exit the indutry and some can provide services (already existed) not unlike automotive or cellphones, where the dev focus on creativity, and oursource things like generic asserts, voice acting, cinematic, marketing, promotions, motion capture to dedicated firms.

I think there is also a chicken egg issues. Game dev cost escalated massively (partly dev fault, partly nature of the industry), and consumer refuse to pay more or allow some help like in game advertising.
Do I like in game advertising, HELL NO, buit it it keeps the boot floating, I can compromised.

Inflated executives pay, especially in US, is "double issues".
First is obvious, the extra pay could help the rack and file employees, and also create the situation where many people refuse to pay more for game, not wanting to pay for the executives alfraedy high salaries.
Its not a good optic when you have millions dollars salary head telling us they need to cut stuff.....
