Chris Pine (aka Captain Kirk)
- In the more recent past, several of Chris’s direct ancestors bravely served in World War II. One was a private in the U.S. Army. Another, great-grandfather George Robert Evans, was an officer who graduated from the U.S. Military Academy with the class of 1929.
- The Civil War was a particularly pivotal conflict for Evans’ family, with relatives fighting on both sides of the war. Daniel Cryer, Evans’ 4th great-grandfather, sided with the Confederacy, whereas John Garvey, Evans’ 3rd great-grandfather, fought for the Union. Both men died in separate battles during this brutal war.
- Honor Cryer, Evans’ 5th great-grandfather, served in Captain Thomas Bickham’s Louisiana militia company in the War of 1812.
- Morgan Cryer, Evans’ 5th great-grand-uncle, served as a private in the 6th regiment from South Carolina during the Revolutionary War and was shot in the ankle during a skirmish.

- Granville Martin Pine, Chris Pine’s grandfather, was a senior at the University of Oklahoma in 1936 and was a student of the Department of Military Science program serving in the ROTC. He’s listed in the ’36 Sooner as Captain Granville M. Pine. Both Pines have that mischievous grin that definitely sets these cadets apart, whether they’re studying at Starfleet Academy or Sooner
- While Chris Pine plays the fictional Captain James T. Kirk on screen, a “real” James Tiberius Kirk appears in the Texas Birth Index on Ancestry.com. JTK was born in McLennan County, Texas, to Defino and Ernestine Campos in September 1968. For naming their son after the captain of the USS Enterprise, the Campos family has definitely claimed the title for 1968’s ultimate Trekkies!
- And just to keep the cosmic coincidences going, Chris Pine’s grandmother, gorgeous movie scream queen and favorite WWII pinup Anne Gwynne, was born in…wait for it…McLennan County, Texas, in 1918. Fifty years before young James Tiberius.
