(Anonymous sources) Crytek drops Ryse sequel due to financial troubles

That's bad news for Crytek. I kind of thought Ryse would be a staple of Xbox games from here on out. Maybe not something to the same degree as GoW or Halo, but at least a title we can expect to see every couple of years.

Hmm, Ryse is a beautiful game, but very boring, imho. I'm still a level 3.

When we play games at my place, and I let other ppl play Ryse, they always say 'do you have other games' after some few minutes
I think another studio should make Ryse sequel.

MS owns the IP though, right ? Perhaps MS should just buy them. Give them a bit of direction, some funds, and some sound management.

I think Ryse has always been a SP experience first and foremost.

Microsoft doesn't own the IP, but they have publishing rights. So why would the financial woes of Crytek have any effect on this game since Microsoft would be funding it?

Making this game would be a good thing for Crytek. It puts people to work.

Apparently they are at odds. MS want the IP but Crytek want to keep it.

I like all the butthurt about neogaf, as if credible info doesnt come from there. Hell almost every post on this site comes from there! This is basically a mirro for neogaf. I would wager if the tone about the One was reversed on neogaf things would be different

So is Skyrim, but I can and have watched my friends play it for hours on end.

Blandina is letting the friends play Ryse and they get bored so my point was it's not a game where multiple people can enjoy at once, it's more of a SP experience.

According to neogaf MS does not own it

I liked Ryse a lot, felt that if they had fleshed out that story it could have been a great game. I was hoping that a sequel would do just that.

I also liked Ryse. Not a great game but a good one and I think would have been better if they went for less "realism" and more weapon variety/combo variety. The combat did get pretty old but the story was really well played out and the graphics were pretty incredible. I only played the MP briefly and it was fun but suffered from the same combat issues as SP. Overall, I'd like to see the series continue though and be MS version of GoW but different....and it could be really good with combat improvements. I think Crytek's money woes have a lot to do with the fact that Warface probably hasn't done very well as an F2P game. I'm not a big proponent of F2P so it doesn't surprise me that a company putting a lot of eggs in that basket is having issues. Not sure how much Ryse sold but I've heard it's done reasonably well for a launch game. Launch is really tough nowadays though as in the past if you sold 750K+ units at launch, that was really successful but with the ever increasing budget in AAA gaming, launch just seems more problematic.

In fairness, I wonder what it would have been had it not started out as a Kinect game. I think that handcuffed the development cycle to a degree.

That would be a shame. Ryse was amazing and pushed the limits of next gen hardware like no other launch title has. Let's hope Microsoft picks up Crytek or at least the IP and makes it happen.

Right games that start out on a different platform/different focus definitely have a challenge with development. I guess most games go through quite a bit of tweaking and refocusing of ideas but yeah, starting out as a Kinect game and what it ended up are vastly different. I'd still recommend the game though. It's fun but just lacking in some areas. The presentation, graphics and story are top notch though.

Not sure MS buying them would be a good idea. For the most part they've had some great ideas wrapped around an ultimately shallow FPS. Ryse was different but was similarly shallow (though I thought the story was probably the best of a Crytek game I've played).

You're right, I misread that. Re-reading it however I get the distinct impression that it is his friends that are playing the game that are getting bored.

Anyway, I haven't played the game myself in weeks. Its a pretty game and a pretty decent one game play-wise. I must admit to something of a bias in that I am not a fan of ancient Rome, I have much more sympathy with the barbarians.

I do hope that Crytek is not in too bad a shape, though.
