This and the division have been my 2 biggest purchasing regrets of the generation. I guess these loot shooters or whatever people are calling these types of games are just not for me. I think I could've had fun with them had I had a consistent coop partner or group, but I don't play online much or have many friends who'd play on a consistent enough basis for me to retain interest.
The problem is everything is built around co-op now. I prefer solo play, especially as I tend to play at odd times when fewer people are on. I usually end up playing very early on weekend mornings and such when most people are doing something else.
Matchmaking helps a little, but still you end up with bad players. I'm still trying to finish Anthem's story and I jump in a mission and only get one other player. That was ok, but he bails right at the end. Leaving me all alone for the last fight. Fortunately I could just hide and shoot from far away but it was boring.
The fatal flaw of these online type games is that the amount of fun you have is dependent on the quality of people you find. Once you get beyond that it is just an endless loot cycle with a bland story.
