Can You Trust Journalists

I am guessing this guy also hoped nobody would bother to read anything here. That quote is pretty positive and they also gave it an 8.5

And why should we really care about Geoff’s awards? Golden Joysticks are much more reputable and have been the biggest awards for 40 years. Geoff’s awards are just advertised better because they show off new games.

I think it’s cos some have always wanted a show with all the bells and whistles similar that to of Hollywood or other big events.

That and most or all of their voting panel are journalists from around the world l. What “criteria” was set up for said selection of journalists and categories is absent to us and maybe even said journalists and those involved.

The sooner gamers realize the " Gaming Journalist" are not real journalists but something else entirely the better. Heck even modern hard news journalists spin stories to fit their own narrative ( i.e. See Fox News, MSNBC) so to expect gaming journalist to be held to some sort of high standard is kinda ridiculous.

Basically, if you aren't paying for your news subscription, you are getting clickbait. Only thing close to real journalism is Washington Post and maybe the NY Times.

Obviously nobody is paying for video game news, so we just get nonsense. Heck, I'd listen to people here over 90% of the so-called professionals.

As an actual journalist: this stuff is just stupid.

These are fanboys with a monetized platform to shout off of. Games "journalism" has been pretty trash.

But it's not just gaming, it's all media. people have these conversations about movies and stuff, too. There is good gaming journalism out there and it isn't this.

Not stirring things, but the lack of feedback from those on Xbox rumors and etc. is astounding. Here you have the latter half of PS5 story and the story about 1st party games launching after 3/2025 and there is little to no opinions. Just the plain news and facts.

It's been almost 24 hours.

I'm not looking for the comments. It just would have been nice if the same reporting was done in the same manner.

People wanting the media to focus on PlayStation news when it's negative must be looking at the wrong things. I've seen a lot of headlines that incorrectly reported that the PS5 was entering it's "later stages" etc which is not what was said. They also mentioned the lack of releases from exiting franchises before March 2025.

But they did say latter stages. Some just mistook it for them saying this gen is just about over.

No the quote was later half, later stages makes it sound like it's almost over. If you read an article about a product saying it's in its later stages why would you buy it if something new is coming out soon? different wording means something quite different. Beginning the later half means another 4 years or so, later stages could mean last year or so. It's a silly thing, I'm not mad about it but I have a feeling if it were said about xbox some of you would be calling it an xbox tax thing lol.

“Regarding the PS5 hardware, which will enter its fifth year since launch, partially due to its entering the latter half of the console cycle, we aim to optimize sales with a greater emphasis on the balance with profits, so we anticipate a gradual decline in unit sales from next fiscal year onwards,”

I think people are still speculating that a PS Pro is coming out (I don't think there is, but there's been lots of rumors saying so).

Same thing really. Latter is always going to make it sound like coming to the end. We all know the new console will be out a couple years before they discontinue the PS5 just like they always do.
They aren't waiting till 2028 to release the PS6.

2028 seems to be the plan, at least based on things that came out during the Activision case. Later half would be correct, later stages sounds like the end is much closer. Silly thing either way but it wasn't accurate reporting and can easily make it sound like the end is closer than it is.

In its latest filing, Sony says that Microsoft offered to keep Activision games on PlayStation until 2027 should its acquisition of the Call of Duty publisher go through. Sony's argument is that, if that timing holds true, the PS6 would have to launch without Call of Duty and other popular Activision games, which could influence people to switch over to Xbox and thereby make the market less competitive. Sony mentions what it thinks might be the PS6 launch window, and although that portion of the filing is redacted, we can assume it's after 2027.

In its own report, Microsoft agreed with Sony's time frame. "Indeed the next new generation of consoles are not expected to be released before the fall of 2028 at the very earliest," the company wrote.
