Cuphead is made by two brothers who've never created a game before
[Sup Holmes is a weekly talk show for people that make great videogames. It airs live every Sunday at 4pm EST on Youtube, and can be found in Podcast form on Libsyn and iTunes.]
Have you seen the latest trailer forCuphead? From the looks of it, you might assume it's the work of team of passionate, experienced animators paying tribute to the cartoons that helped for their love of the medium. You'd be assuming right, except for the "team" and "experienced" parts. The bulk of the artwork for Cupheadcomes from one man -- Chad Moldenhauer. He and his brother Jared are making Cuphead pretty much by themselves.
Wut.
We talked with Chad and Jared about how they went from game enthusiasts to one of Microsoft's headliners at E3 2014, the design decisions that can make or break a 2D run-and-gun shooter, being the first to ever create a classic 1930's style handdrawn 2D animated game, and so much more. My webcam was all turned to crap this week, so please excuse my awfulness. I promise this week's show will be better.
Thanks again to Chad and Jared for hanging out with us, and if you have your druthers, tune in here today at 4pm EST when we welcome former Xbox and Nintendo indie guru Dan Adelman to the program. It's going to be a big 'un.
On Xbox TWO.2 guys?! So when's this slated to be released?

I actually think Sonic should have always taken this direction. The original Genesis incarnation of Sonic borrowed heavily from Max Fleischer's style and especially Felix the Cat (my favorite character of that era) ....I want to plead these guys to do a Felix game next. How sick would a Mario game look with this art style?

I'm not sure if going full vintage would be the way to go for Sonic, but I always identified with the series more cartoon routes compared to the modern anime direction, and now the humanizing of the character even further. I'd like a Felix game as well, but that's very unlikely. I'd put more hope into a Mickey Mouse game done in the vintage style.I actually think Sonic should have always taken this direction. Definately. I loved these as a child. I remember projector booths in the malls that would play old Woody or Heckle & Jeckel flicks. My fav was always Mighty Mouse, though! I think that or Popeye takes the cake for best translated to a video game. There were already a couple decent Popeye games, arcade and NES. He is probably the first character to have a power-up.
a woody wood pecker game would be awesome with the same style of art like cuphead
Cuphead 1886?this game may turn out to be a "I beat the game in 30 minutes" type of game if you're good at these kinds of games.
I didn't say beat the game in 30 minutes and watch cut-scenes for 2 hours!Cuphead 1886?
