Not sure if I'll jump into it right away, but I intend to play Deus Ex for the first time on my 360. Recently got both titles. I'd like to play IW first, but isn't HR a prequel to the series? What's the word on both games? I know HR is pretty well liked, but I remember a tad bit of controversy here and there for IW in terms of scores back in the ancient days of the original xbox.

Ive played them all (even part 1 on PC). I have to say HR was better than IW. And to be honest, I cant remember what i didnt like about IW, other than playing it and saying to my self, "this is not how i remember". I think HR came closer to giving me the same feeling I had with the OG Deus Ex.

Pretty much everything I've heard is that Invisible War was garbage. I only played a bit of the first game but it was good. I've always wanted to go back and play it through but doubt it will ever happen. Human Revolution is one of my favorite games of the gen.

They're both excellent games, except for Invisible War. ;)

That's probably a little harsher than it deserves. I think had the original Deus Ex never been made and IW was the first one released, it would have been looked at as a good game but not an all-time great. The problem is that the original was and is still one of the finest games ever created, so IW just looks poor by relation. It's still a fun game, and I'd encourage you to eventually play it if you play the original, it's by a wide margin the third best of the three games in that universe.

IW was the first Dues Ex game I played and I seem to remember thoroughly enjoying it.
I agree with hrudey, I think it gets judged harshly just because of how good the first one was(apparently, I've still never played it)

Here's my opinion as a big Deus Ex fan: Human Revolution is better.

It's hard to explain why Invisible War is a lower quality title without comparing it to the other Deus Ex games, but it's clear Human Revolution was the stronger overall effort.

Invisible War certainly had it's strengths. It had great graphics for its time, it had some cool in-game gadgets, there was a decent amount of "freedom" and the conversation trees later in the game were really good, and the fan service really piles up toward the end of the game. However, levels were smaller and primarily corridors, the stealth system was broken, the RPG elements were reversible, the story doesn't get affected by your actions, side-quests become inconsequential, everything feels like it was focus-grouped to hell and back. Still a good game overall, but fell short of DX1 and DX3. It also fell short of developer Ion Storm's next title, Thief 3.

Meanwhile, Human Revolution felt like a game that had the balls to push players into difficult situations with unclear and difficult decisions, it had a better story, better atmosphere... just an overall better game for reasons I'll let you discover.

Both are certainly worth playing if you are a fan. I've replayed both titles several times.

Ouch, IW not faring well. I might still play it first, simply because I do want to play a Deus Ex. However, I'm in the mood for an old xbox game.

So apparently IW isn't backwards compatible, so HR it is. Played a bit of it, feels good so far. Not sure if I want to go lethal or non-lethal though.

if you can go the whole game non-lethal than a +1 for you.

Deus Ex, Human Revolution is one of my top 5 games this gen. It has one of the best upgrading system for a single player game ever. Every new skill open up new possibilities.

I have 95% non lethal playthough. Ghost achievement for all, except the first few mission, when I do not know I get bonus for stealth playthough.

Key thing is deciding which skill to focus, since Paxis upgrade are hard to come by.

Some skill useful for non lethal+ ghost playthough (from memory)
Double knockout-surprisingly useful as many enemies work in pairs
Clocking- This is self explanatory. I max this out. You can cross entire area pass enemies with this fully upgraded.
Double jump/lift heavy/Safe landing at any height/ knock walls- Allow you to access almost all areas
Hacking skills- You will need to hack a lot, so its worth to put some skill into this.
