Picked it up for the PS4 and I've put around 3 hours into it...pretty difficult game. Easily the best rally game I've ever played. The handling is difficult, but it's quite realistic. The visuals are pretty great overall with a few bad textures here and there. The sounds are the most detailed sounds I've heard in any racing game. Most of the courses I've driven on are excellently designed and actually look like believable real world locations (which they are based on).

I'm only using the DS4, but it's still manageable and fun. I was hesitant to open the game based on what others were saying about the difficultly, but the game is just too fun to not constantly retry each event trying to get a podium finish. I usually stay away from games that are known to be frustrating, but this game is just too good to pass up. Fans of early racing games should give this game a try.

Thanks MR X. I was curious about this game.

I may be in the market for a rally game. Do the courses affect handling? Are there different weather conditions?

Good to hear. Was a fan of the first two Dirt games but series went to s*** with the ghymkana crap.

Thanks for the impressions. I was curious about this game, too.

More than any other racing game I've played. Every type of road condition (gravel, ice, snow, mud, asphalt) all handle differently and realistically. There's rain and snow with multiple times of day for each course. The different drivetrains all handle differently as well.

Sweet! Thanks.

One of my favorite rally/ racing games ever was Sega Rally because of how the terrain could knock time off your score if you hit it wrong.

Unlike most of these game with snow banks, you can actually drive into them and get slowed down instead of bouncing off of them. Of course they can just roll you over if you drive up the side of them. The track deformation is nowhere nearly as detailed as Sega Rally, but it has it to some degree.

The co-driver in the game is the most useful I've heard in any rally game to date. You can increase or decrease the speed in which the pace notes are read. He'll also mention certain things after crashing such as your water temperature increasing or you have a flat tire...or even saying random things like "be brave". The game has an insane attention to detail in every aspect.

It's easily my favorite racing game this gen and possibly my favorite racing game of all time. This game is the equivalent of Rallisport Challenge 2 for this generation. Playing late at night with headphones puts me into a trance that no racing game has ever done with me. The sense of speed, the insanely detailed sound, and the realistic co-driver really make this game immersive.

Cool. I enjoyed the first two Dirt games. I'll have to check this one out.

This game is nothing like the arcade-like Dirt series. This is a straight up rally simulation and if you start playing it expecting anything else, then YGGR.

Stop I don't want to buy it right now!. I'll probably get it on PC so better chance of a sale at some point.

I am interested. But $60 seems a little steep for my level of interest.

I'm sure it's well worth it for rally fans.

I found the controls difficult with a game pad. The same twitchy feel that Project Cars has and is common to most sim racers optimized for a wheel.

I am spoiled by Forza's buttery gamepad play so, and while I love sims, it is hard to get into them on consoles. I could never find the right tweeks for Project Cars but with Dirt I decided to go against the grain. Most gamepad players suggest as good settings which remove 'lag'. I went the opposite, all the way down on sensitivity and all the way up on linearity with Dirt. I am naturally a click click driver instead of holding an angle turner, so to me this setup feels the closest to perfect. Every little movement is not throwing me off my line and it doesn't feel leggy like Project Cars did when you uped the linearity.

I don't remember what settings I changed on mine, but it made a huge difference compared to the default settings. Man, the long stages (especially at night) can get pretty brutal if you wanna get into the top 3 on the later championships.

I really like how you can have the co-driver's voice play only through the PS4 controller speaker. I find it easier to understand compared to having the voice getting mixed in with the rest of the audio.
