Live, Microsoft.com, Xbox.com, you name it. They're all down.

Edit: And they're starting to come back ;p

Here's what Xbox.com says:

Service Unavailable - DNS failure
The server is temporarily unable to service your request. Please try again later.

It likely has nothing to do with Xbox One. Even MSDN was down.. I was searching something for my job.

A few thousand early Xbox One owners aren't going to take down all of Microsoft's domains.. lol.. really the most logical guess is a big DDOS attack.

Its probably well into the tens of thousands now that its midnight in central Europe. In 45 mins the UK and Ireland with will be adding to that and we'll be into thehundreds of thousands. Not saying this is related but its more than a few thousand

For a service that regularly has millions connected to it, it's really nothing.

I'll be very disappointed if MS can't handle the relatively tiny influx of traffic this system launch represents.
 
This isnt a load issue. This looks to be a root hints DNS issue. You can test if you know how to use nslookup.

You and me both. Given the focus they have put on azure, I'm hoping for something good.

Probably around a million people hoping on to download tons of crap within the first 4 hours... it's going down, there's pretty much no way around it.

Eh? Not so fast. Those 1 million people will not be jumping on at the same time... Also what happened today was not a load issue as far as everyone can tell.
 
Sitting on Xbox Live right now, and have xbox.com up and running on the PC too. No problems here.
 
What happened to the power of the cloud? 300,000 servers and not one could keep Microsoft afloat. Was the demand for Xbox One that great? lol

Even cloud servers are subject to availability of dns
