Lionhead says it needs a "little more time" to give players "the best game possible."

The HD remake of Fable 1 was scheduled to launch on Xbox 360 this year, but developer Lionhead says the game needs more time to be properly finished.

"We’ve been working hard for the past year to bring you the very best Fable Anniversary experience on Xbox 360,"explained lead designer Ted Timmins on the Lionhead blog. "We feel though, that we need a little more time in order to meet our ambitions and give you, the fans, the best game possible."

"I know I speak for everyone at Lionhead when I say that we can’t wait for you to see what we’ve been up to, and it gives us great pleasure to let you know that you can expect Fable Anniversary to be both on-shelves and online via the Xbox Games Store in February 2014."

"It’s not easy making these decisions and I know that us asking you to wait a little longer whilst we get to play test the game every day is downright unfair," added Timmins, promising that the team would release new media and "top secret announcements" for the game in the coming weeks.

Lionhead Studios is also working on multiplayer-focused spin-off Fable Legends for Xbox One.

Gotta say, This sucks. I was looking forward to it.
 
Ah well. At least they'll have a chance to get it in shape before releasing. A throwback like Fable will probably get more attention in February 2014 anyhow than during this holiday, with everything focused on new & shiny (vs. old & shiny).
 
This really needed a PC version. I hate the fact I need to hold on to current gen with next-gen upon us.
 
Bad decision financial wise but good for me. I'm gonna be busy this Holiday playing Ryse, DR3, BF4, COD, and Forza. By February I will have more time for Fable.
 
I'm all for the game having more time.

Gives 360-only gamers something to look forward to post-One launch, too.
 
This game would have been a fond farewell to the 360 but 2014 puts it in the rear view mirror. I hope the delay is to port a digital release for the Xbox One.
 
No have no problem with that, seeing how big my backlog is and I prolly won't get the XBone for a while yet...
 
They should delay it for three years just to pay homage to the original.

...and ship it with even less features than Fable 1. :(
 
Lame but I can only see myself playing V on my 360 for the rest of the year.
 
Sucks. But I probably wasn't going to be able to get it this year anyways considering the size of my games backlog.
 
Well...this sucks. Now it will definitely get lost in the shuffle of the next generation for me. I can't think I'm the only one.
 
I forgot about this game already. It would've been the only game after GTA5 that I was gonna buy on the 360.
 
Haven't played my free copy of F3 on my hard drive, yet. Don't know why I play these things. They are so insufferably cheesy, I mentally cringe while playing. I think it's a horrific fascination that keeps me coming back for more---or a subliminal addiction.

I really do not get why MS didin;t have them doing an xbox one version too. Makes little sense to me.

I would delete it and forget about it. Fable 3 is down right terrible. easily the worst of the three Fable games.

Why did you tell me THAT? Now I'll HAVE to play it. It's that mesmerizing horrid facination thing.

Meh. I think Fable 3 is easily the best of the 3 other than the stupid NPC cutscene interaction.
