Gaming Review From PlayStation to Xbox and back. Journey of an Xbox "fanboy" to a two console owner! (The Journey)

I own all 3 current gen and last gen consoles, and 2 high end gaming PC's...now what?!?!?!

I've always been an Xbox gamer, thought this gen I'd get both XB1 & PS4. Got xb1 at launch and PS4 6 months later which I got for free with a tv.

ps4 only for exclusives and xb1 everything else.

Xbox One is bigger than PS4 in size.

PS4 has a panel over the hard drive you can remove.

There is an HDMI in port on one of them.

PS4 can stand vertically.

I think that covers all the differences, really.

Technical tear downs are the most informative. I need to know more about the Xbox One's move engines and the Ps4's solution for sound.

One, two, three, four, I predict a tech war.

Xbox One's move engines are slightly modified versions of AMD's DMA Engines from the GCN architecture of GPU.

The PS4 uses AMD TrueAudio for its sound.

Whatever console you buy, everyone's a winner!

Unless you bought an Ouya or one of those Nvidia things.

I find the audio identical for the most part.

You will do. They are very similar in tech and I think we have reached a baseline (no pun intended) fidelity that means the only way you can truly distinguish audio improvement depends, more than ever, on the quality of your amp and speakers.

No major differences between the 2 with both 7.2 channel AVR's I used. Which is GREAT compared to last gen where many times I preferred the PS3 version of games due to the superior sounds.
I didn't see if XBO supported DD Atmos though which PS4 does (at least with supported BR's)

Not sure if Dolby Atmos is supported. For gaming I think Star Wars Battlefront was the first to use it, but I don't know if that's just PC. I think it needed to be patched in to the PC version as it wasn't working at launch.

Audio wise I believe someone here posted xb1 has dedicated hardware to unload the tasks from the cpu? Not to start a vs thread...

Let's see had OG Xbox and PS2 and probley split my time but all my online was on Xbox.
Had Xbox 360 and PS3 but almost never touched the PS3.
Bought both PS4 and Xbox One on launch day and I play the s*** outta PS4 and never touch the Xbox even though I prefer the Xbox One controller.

Moral of story... I have no idea.

It sounds like you just played the better console each gen. Nothing wrong with that. Brand only goes so far, you can still enjoy the exclusives for each. Last gen the 360 was the best all around console, this gen the PS4 is the best all around console.

I'd really like to hear from people who own both - do you find time for both consoles? Does switching controllers mess you up? (it would me). Does it just mostly come down to picking the best platform for multiplats?

I just don't think I would get use out of 2 consoles.

I just switch it up each month really. If an exclusive is coming out on either i'll plan on playing that. Then if it's just multiplats coming out i'll usually play those on the PS4 unless i haven't played anything on my Xbox One lately. Both consoles get a lot of love. I don't mind playing multiplats on either, even if the PS4 version is said to be better.

I enjoy going for achievements and trophies. So it's all good to me. The controller isn't much of a difference like last gen so it doesn't bother me switching between the two. Even last gen i liked the DS3, but the 360 controller was clearly better for certain games and just felt better in the hands. This gen it's a tie for me.

It's not, you need the ability to bitstream HD audio for Dolby Atmos at this time which the PS4 doesn't have that ability right now for games. PCM only for games and DD/DTS bitstream....

I have been tempted especially with the PS4 deals in the run up to Xmas.
However the only games I want to play is the Uncharted series. That's it. SONY offer nothing for me that the XBOX doesn't have or has coming. Looking at the 2016 line up I am more than happy with the 1st party and 3rd party release schedule. I understand that allure though PV but my gaming soul remains strong and pure. Hope to see you come back to the light side of the force post SF5 launch......

How would you know?

He probably played the PS4 at a Walmart or something. Definitely enough experience to say which is better. Notice how he didn't dispute what i said about the 360 being the best all around console last gen? I think it's okay to be a fanboy if you don't come off as a total shill.

Okay then. The PS3 was the best all around console last gen and the Xbox One is the best all around console this gen. Either way, you can't win every time Xbros. Or even once, if you consider that the Wii really won last gen anyway and the PS2 won the gen before that.

360 was the best all around console last get, The One is the best all around console this gen. The PS4 is the highest selling console of this gen however. Truth of it, I'm kind of glad the PS4 is doing so well. Microsoft has been killing it trying to keep up with Sony, which in turn they have been killing it with exclusives, BC, apps, UI etc. The experience is unparalleled in my opinion. PS4 gives great performance, but I have no problems with that as the One wins in just about everything else.

What games do you have on your PS4?

I own all three this generation similar to the last and the one before that, it's inexpensive on the whole and you get to enjoy different games across all platforms without having to succumb to a 'my dick is bigger then yours' debate.

Nice little read up Plainview, my early days were very similar to yours and thought the OG xbox was miles ahead of the competition but I still loved my PS2. It does suck been an xbox one owner seeing the ps4 getting better graphics, but I just don't care enough to drop 500 on another console, not to mention in most cases the differences are pretty minimal.

I'm not gonna lie I would love to get one down the line just to play Bloodborne and perhaps a couple other exclusives.

If the multi-plats were almost identical on both and the PS3 had much better exclusives...how was the 360 better?
Unless you wanna say because of party chat as not having it can be a major issue.

PS4 has the better multi-plats with a even bigger difference, equal online service(better IMO) and better rated exclusives and most gamers notice and are speaking with there wallets.XBO UI is getting worse and worse sorry. BC is terrible in my experience with it Gears 3 for example hits around 10-15fps,the amount of playable games is 2 low,its taking to long to get games and not every game will even be BC. Apps well WWE Network runs better on XBO.
