Of the individually numbered and extremely limited 20th Anniversary PlayStation 4 units available, only one can carry the number 00001. Sony held onto that specific console in order to auction it off for charity, and that listing has now closed.

The first of 12,300 consoles sold in Japan for ¥15,135,000 ($128,53:cool: after 1,585 bids. Sony will be donating the purchase price and a matching gift to Save the Children Japan.

The 20th Anniversary PlayStation 4 consoles are decorated in a color scheme meant to emulate the look of the original PlayStation. Each comes with a matching controller and PlayStation Camera.

Our Take
Normally, I wouldn’t endorse this kind of extravagance. However, this was a charity auction, and that $257,000 will be helping children in need.

To have that kind of money to blow. Sounds like the life. Forget buying 6 cars, i just want to collect video game lore.

Sounds like the buyer is now broker than da Vinci. I don't feel sorry for him.

Insanity. If you want to give to Charity... Give to Charity! :p

It's their money, I guess, but I can't help but shake my head at this sort of thing.
