To celebrate the 75th anniversary of Batman, DC Comics has declared July 23 as Batman Day.

(It’s also National Hot Dog Day, but I digress.) There are several events around town, including film screenings, special events at your local comic book store and at the local branch of your library.

(I can’t possibly invite all of you to my party, at which I’ll be watching the Tim Burton Batman movies on a loop, along with some of my favorite DC Animated Universe titles. I love you Christopher Nolan for all that you’ve done in the name of the cape, but this is a celebration, man.)

THERE WILL be a double feature of Batman (1989, PG-13, 126 mins.) and The Dark Knight (2008, PG-13, 152 mins.) starting at 7 p.m. at the Angelika Film Center, 5321 E. Mockingbird Lane, Suite 230 inside Mockingbird Station, Dallas. Learn more at angelikafilmcenter.com.

ACROSS THE STREET, Keith’s Comics will be celebrating, too, with 25 percent off Batman toys, comics and books. At 5 p.m., ages 12 and younger can pick a Batman mask and get a photo opportunity with Batman-themed guests. www.keithscomics.com.

Other confirmed participants in Batman Day in the Dallas-Fort Worth area are: Titan Comics, 3128 Forest Lane, Suite 212; Awesome Cards & Comics, 8420 Abrams Road, Suite 202; Zeus Comics & Collectibles Inc., 1334 Inwood Road; Collected: YourPopCultureHdqrts, 3502 Blue Bonnet Circle; and Lone Star Comics, 511 E. Abram St.

YOUR FRIENDLY NEIGHBORHOOD (come on, Spider-Man, I couldn’t resist) Barnes & Noble is joining in the fun, too. The chain kicks off its DC Comics Spectacular by paying particular homage to the Bat with festivities that go through Sunday. There will be giveaways and a special, five-day-only offer on DC Comics graphic novels. Giveaways include an exclusive collectors’ edition of the original Batman story and the re-imagining of his beginnings in The New 52 from Brad Meltzer, along with a chance to win a mini Bat signal. barnesandnoble.com

THE NORTH OAK CLIFF BRANCH LIBRARY is holding a Happy 75th Birthday, Batman! Bash on Saturday at 2 p.m. The library will be serving up some classic cartoons and Bat-cake. Staff will also give out free comics, masks, posters and pins while supplies last. DC Entertainment and Random House are bringing the celebration to more than a thousand libraries on Saturday, so check in with your local branch.

DON’T FORGET DIGITAL: An edition of Detective Comics [HASHTAG]#27[/HASHTAG] will be available for free download on Wednesday at readdcentertainment.com, where a sale is going on with other Batman comics for 99 cents, and on the platform of your choice, including Kindle, iBookstore, Nook and Google Play.

Chime in with other events. I’ll keep updating this post as well.

Batman at 75: Celebrate Batman Day with digital sale on 750 DC titles

Good news for those with Bruce Wayne tastes but discount budgets: The celebration of Batman’s 75th anniversary continues this week with the largest digital sale ever from DC Comics.

Starting today, fans can buy 750 Batman titles for 99 cents a pop. Some of the titles included in the sale: “Batman: The Dark Knight Returns,” “Batman: The Long Halloween,” “Batman: No Man’s Land” and “Batman: Year One.”(Check out the other titles for sale in the poster to the right.)

The sale, which lasts for one week, celebrates Batman Day on July 23 as well as the weekend festivities planned for San Diego’s Comic-Con International. One of the hallmark celebrations will be “Batman: The Complete Television Series,” which will get a preview at the confab with a panel on Thursday featuring Adam West (Batman), Burt Ward (Robin) and Julie Newmar (Catwoman, meow).

The revival of the campy but beloved TV program isn’t the only fete for the DC comics superhero. Throughout the year, DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. have been celebrating the Caped Crusader with the “Batman Eternal” weekly comics series, a 25th-anniversary edition DVD of Tim Burton’s Oscar-winning 1989 “Batman” film, new animated releases and more.

To further mark Batman Day, DCE will also launch a 24-hour eBook sale, offering 10 essential Batman graphic novels for only $2.99 each.
