Getting the most out of your Xbox One and Microsoft Surface.

Yeah, I couldn't disagree more with that perspective.

The UI is almost universally something which is *hugely* popular and impress to people who compare it to Apple/Android... it's one of MS's biggest differentiators, and LIVE TILES are also something almost universally agreed on as being a positive improvement to 'dead icon grids'.

Totally disagree with you there. Really, and completely disagree.

Hmm, how did I know you would disagree with a post that isn't 100% pro Microsoft? See the fanboy thread in the Multiplatform forums for some advice. You're unbelievable.

I have a different preference than you. I dislike the Metro and it's a factor in me not picking up the surface. Seeing as the Surface as well as the Windows Phone are lagging behind Android and IOS devices in sales, it seems other people may have my preference too.

And please do a google search for 'Metro Interface Reviews' and 'Windows 8 Reviews'. The consensus is far from universally positive.

I agree with Flynn in that the metro UI, particularly on the phone, has been well received. WRT the phone, I think it lags in sales because it simply came out too late and with a small deployed base many of the top apps aren't available for it yet. However I've read that sales are trending up quickly and it seems the Nokia Lumia phones have been the catalyst.

Regarding Windows 8 on the surface/PC, the backlash there has been about the attempt to remove the start menu and change the way people use their PCs. I've never heard a complaint about the Live Tiles in Windows 8; it's always been about the lack of start button and desktop mode and all that. The OS itself is quite fine, faster and leaner than Win 7 in many respects (benchmarks bear that out).

Personally I prefer the Live Tiles approach, and in fact when I was given an iPhone 5 at work I ended up trading it in for a Lumia 920.
