Sony has announced God of War III Remastered is coming to PlayStation 4 soon.

The updated version of the game will feature 1080p graphics and other additions, all done to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the franchise. A debut trailer and release date will be released later today.

Originally released way back in 2010 on PS3, our review of God of War III gave the title a 9.3 after finding it to be an amazing offering that refines everything good about the series, topped off with a pretty face.

Hm. Never got into GoW myself, but I heard this was a pretty game. I guess it'll be a little prettier now.

God of War 3 & 4 were meh IMO. GOW 1 & 2 on PS2 were fantastic. Chains of Olympus & Ghosts of Sparta on Vita were also very good.
 
The character model detail was so damn real. Tearing off Helios' head with the camera zoomed in on his face as he screamed was just... I couldnt describe it.
 
If this was the whole trilogy I would care but for just one game? lol no thanks. Make it the full thing so someone first time Playstation can play it all.

Yeah GOW3 looked really nice but there were too many corners cut due to a true lack of direction during development, the guy who directed that game was also the guy behind the big budget game that Sony cancelled for PS4 last year, thankfully he is no longer with the company lol. Luckily the guy behind GOW2 (the best in the series IMO) is back at Sony Santa Monica and is the director for the next game in the series.

I really wish they had rebuilt GOW1 and GOW2 with PS4 quality graphics, I would have bought that day one. If I'm feeling bored in July when it comes to gaming I may get this just for the photo mode but I can't say that I'm super excited about it.

I'm sorry but them doing a remaster of only God of War 3 instead of a "re-remaster" of the God of War Saga makes this remaster on PS4 look like a complete cash grab and a quick decision made by Sony to help the PS4's Q3/Q4 2015 lineup (especially due to Uncharted 4 getting delayed).
 
Although I'd prefer a collection this is a great game and gives me a reason to play my 4. I'll take it! Hopefully it will be reasonably priced.
 
I liked GoW3 and all, one of my favorite PS3 titles. IMO the best looking title of last gen...

But why the hell would you celebrate the 10 year anniversary with just one game? 1 or 2 deserve a nice remaster, 3 was already eye candy.
 
This has one of the most epic intros for any game I have played. I would have like a Kratos Collection with parts 1-3. But I might double dip just because GoW3 was so damn good.

kind of a letdown with only one game, I'm guessing it was probably 3 games at one point, but with UC4 being delayed they might try and cram it in the 2015 winter slot to compensate.

I got to agree while 3 and 4 were ok they were the not the best 1 was good 2 was the best and the two psp games were good but ghosts was the best one that was really good.
 
July 14th? That's fast.

I doubt it, they just started working on it fully last year, we will hopefully see something on it at E3 this year but I think it's probably a 2016 title.

I see some of you asking why not a holiday release and I'm guessing you are joking :) This game would get crushed during the holidays with everything else that's coming out. The MCC reached 10th in sales in November and fell out of the top 10 all together in December and that had 4 games in one pack, there is no way a single GOW remaster would make sense to release during the holidays even if Sony doesn't have big time exclusives coming out during that period. Rumor is this was supposed to be bundled with a GOW Ascension remaster but it was more work than they thought it would be getting the games ported over so the other one is coming later. Damn I wish they'd have rebuilt GOW1 and 2 with high end graphics, those were much better games than 3 and Ascension.

I think some are more surprised at how quickly it is coming and how quietly it has been announced.

I am not sure releasing it the fall makes much difference. As of right now it only has to contend with 3rd party titles and there aren't exactly a crap tonne of heavy hitters here either.... battlefront, Rainbow Six siege, MGS 5, and The Division (assuming it don't get delayed) are pretty much it.

Metal Gear is coming in September and that's likely to be big, especially on the PS4, there will also be other titles like Just Cause 3, Mad Max, and supposedly a Ratchet and Clank game. Add those to the games that you named (minus Batman as that comes out in June) and add the typical annual sports games and Assassin's Creed and that's a pretty strong holiday lineup all around, I just don't this game would be able to compete against all of that.
