Get ready for a Giant Monster Cinematic Universe, as King Kong and Godzilla are set to do battle...
Things have changed quite a bit with the planned King Kong origin movie, Kong: Skull Island, and also with the sequel to Godzilla. Over the past few weeks, the projects have all landed at Warner Bros, and now the plan is - yes! - for a giant monster cinematic universe.

We now learn that this is going to culminate - or, er, at least the first phase is - in 2020, with Godzilla Vs Kong. That'll mark the showdown between characters who thus far have been kept apart.

It also means that the two films coming before it are, we suspect, going to tease this crossover. The first will be Kong: Skull Island, the King Kong origins movie that Jordan Vogt-Roberts has been set to direct for some time. That goes before the cameras later this month, and is set for release in 2017.

After that, Godzilla 2 - which Gareth Edwards is expected back to direct - will arrive on June 8th 2018.

Godzilla Vs Kong is then set to arrive in 2020. Furthermore, Legendary - which is partnering on the films - now also has the rights to characters from Toho's Godzilla universe. So don't expect this particular boxset to be complete in 2020.

Legendary's Thomas Tull said in a statement that "audiences really responded to Godzilla. Today, I’m excited to reveal that film was only the beginning of an epic new entertainment universe. As a lifelong fan of these characters, I’ve always wanted to see the ultimate showdown, and today we’re pleased to be announcing that and more".

I used to get this old King Kong vs. Godzilla book form the library every month. It had an orange cover. There were other monster books too. I should see if I can find them.

I had no problems with Freddy vs. Jason. I liked all of the movies in both series, even the reboots. I just like them all, faults and all.
 
The movie comes out in 2020 and the promo starts off with "Get ready..."?!??

How does one aptly prepare for this movie given only 5 years of advance warning? :crazy:
 
I didn't see the latest Godzilla movie, don't plan on seeing the next our the Kong movies. f***ing sick of reboots of s*** from my childhood. Get some new ideas Hollywood.
 
How are they going to pitch this Kong against Godzilla in the next movie? He's as big as Godzilla's hind leg.
 
Rumour is that's actually 1 of 3 this being the baby so still growing. It's set before Godzilla

I hope so. Godzilla in the 2014 film was 350 ft tall. Kong in Skull Island is going to be 100 ft tall. Kong in Peter Jackson's King Kong film was 25 ft tall.

ADAM WINGARD TO DIRECT GODZILLA VS. KONG

Adam Wingard has been chosen to direct the upcoming film "Godzilla vs. Kong." Wingard has previously directed "The Guest" and the "Blair Witch" reboot.

The film will be written by Terry Rossio and will be one of a series of films the "MonsterVerse" franchise from Warner Bros. They also have another film on the backburner, "Godzilla: King of the Monsters", which will star Millie Bobby Brown, Kyle Chandler, and Vera Farmiga. The Kong/Godzilla storyline is one that many fans of these films are looking forward to.

"Godzilla vs. Kong" is slated for a May 22, 2020 release.

I don't feel good about this.
 
...And there goes my hopes for a good flick outta this. Why give a franchise this big, no two franchises combined, that also needs a big budget, to someone who clearly cannot prove himself? So typical of Hollywood. It's like the 90s all over again.
 
Finally saw this movie last night, streamed it on PlayStation video and really enjoyed it. I love how they weren't afraid to use color in it vs going for a drab look. It looked great in 1080p without HDR but I'll be buying it on UHD Blu-Ray when it comes out too, 4K with HDR can only make it look better.

I'm going to get the Best Buy exclusive package on July 18. It's the only version that includes 4K Blu-ray and 3D Blu-ray in the same package.
