Alan Wake was one of my Top 5 games from the 360 generation and I thought at the time the graphics were fantastic. Was it really 540p?

Best looking game last gen along with TR, IMO.

The Division is probably one of the Most impressive games I've played. The sheer amount of variety and quality of assets with an incredible dynamic lighting and weather and Great AI that forces you to move and adapt. So good.

On the issue of lighting- not only is the over-arching "global" day/night system amazing, but the actual effort put into lighting the city is immense. the placement of cars for head/tail lights, using the signs and having certain lights on or off- indoors and out-... It's boggling and an amazing achievement in an open world.

Division isn't the best looking but no game has more attention to details than it.

I agree.

Dark Souls 3 900p X1, 1080p ps4

We were curious about the game's resolution, first and foremost. While Bloodborne and Dark Souls 3 run at a full 1080p on PS4, there were no certainties of the resolution setup on other formats. On a close pixel count, it turns out Xbox One dials its native resolution back to a straight 1600x900 in this case. Essentially, this puts us at 70 per cent of the PS4's overall pixel output.

Sadly, some of the engine's more notorious quirks also translate to Xbox One. Take for instance the frame-pacing issue; Dark Souls 3 targets a v-synced locked 30fps on console, but once again, we see the engine producing irregular ordering of frames. This means that while we do hit a 30fps line on average, we still get the perception of stutter anyway, with several unique frames running in a row, followed by multiple duplicates.

However, the bigger concern is the genuine hits in frame-rate on Xbox One. At our very first step, we get a continuous stretch of play at 25fps in the opening section - a drop incurred by the heavy volumetric fog effects around this area's frosty high-rises. Boss battles produce similar issues on Xbox One, and we even reach frame-rates at near 20fps for larger-scale encounters on the High Wall of Lothric.

PS4 is the preferred pick for several reasons. From Software makes a number of visual concessions on Xbox One, dropping its native resolution to 900p, and also edging down shadow and motion blur quality. None of these cuts dampen the quality of the experience to any radical degree, and it's perfectly enjoyable on Xbox One as-is. However, it's undeniable PS4 brings out the best in From Software's latest project, presenting its world at a clearer 1080p, and with a firmer grasp on its 30fps target to boot.

Last gen XB 360 at times had minuscule resolution/fps differences and it mattered.
This gen the differences are much larger and we spin that it doesn't matter lol and some wonder why I am so anti xboy.

Yep, a couple of extremists back then has you painting a broad brush to hundreds of people at TXB/UVGF who said no difference back then and are still saying no difference today. Waffling went both ways and in both instances it was a few extremists, hardly the general consensus. But of course you are one that is constantly looking for stuff like that so it's no wonder you find it, live it, and twist your own personal history to make believe it was the status quo. Not.

The mouths were much bigger than... of course one who was on the side of the boasting wouldn't notice.
Only a no knowledge moron would say there is no differences today just saying so keep it coming ya hear.

So during the TXB days (which you've brought up in 2 threads today), who are all the people (TXB and Union) out of the 100s (or even 1,000s users at its peak) who bickered in resolution battles.

Way to paint the boards with a broad stroked brush.

And which poster would that be?

I think I have more posts here at The Union than in my 12 years at TXB. I didn't even participate in resolution wars cause I skipped PS3 last gen and had no way to objectively compare. I can count on one hand the times I even engaged Val back then. He's rewriting history to try to save face. Lolol :txbrolleyes:

I have both PS4 and X1 this gen and switch back and forth all the time, sometimes even with the same game, and there are no differences worth noting, and I will swear to God that is my honest opinion. /case closed.

Edit: Oh yeah, I do speak above you Val...WAY above you. Lol

I wasn't referring to you but you are so quick to attempt to make a point that you are 2 stupid 2 see that.
Who cares about you are opinion of differences that do exist if you wanna face them or not.

The PS3 and 360 were almost unbelievably similar. I don't think we'll see that level of parity again.

I still think more could be squeezed from the PS3 ( with the right studio) while the 360 was more efficient and was a beast too.

Relax man.

Or the mods could keep closing every thread with potential for good discussion just because things (that don't really need to be said) need to be said.

This is a good video on the graphical techniques that can make up a game's resolution.

Good vid, but tough to understand sometimes as it's tech spec heavy and he talks fast. Check out the chart at 8:50!

But he gets the message across. Different techniques to get games looking great as native 1080p isn't always doable.

My stupidity is a direct result of your muddy and grammatically unintelligible posts. Like Telly said, you need to relax bro. Maybe go see a doctor if this kind of stuff is hitting you in every direction of life. Good luck and best wishes!

What makes me laugh is how people mock games for being a certain resolution despite said game being stunning.

A big issue this generation, like the video implies, is gamers knowledge of technology falls way short and thus their expectations and reactions are not on par with what is happening. Just look at DX12, everybody was expecting huge differences and no matter how often I or anybody else tried to set them straight, they blissfully ignored and carried on expecting the impossible. Then what happens, DX12 comes out and does very little at all, even makes performance is worse in a lot of cases.

I am all for high resolution games, but if a game has to be 900P instead of 1080P in order to look great and run great then I am down with that too. I applaud companies like Gorilla Games and Remedy for creating/utilizing tricks like temporal re-projection.

No major difference. I will be getting the X1 version of course....once I finish Bloodborne that is!
