Gun Reform Thread

YouTube removing a bunch (maybe all?) gun videos and ammosexuals are moving to P******* instead. Seems fitting. Anyways, honestly surprised the NRA or some other gun group doesn't already have their own website for uploading gun videos. Either way I find it hilarious on social media gun proponents are calling this an attack on their freedom and equating it to book burning.

People often get really confused on what "freedom of speech" really means. Freedom of speech applies to the government. Youtube or any other company isn't bound by it.

Still surprised to read that people are attacking kids from Parkland. You have to be a little slow to think people are going to be OK with that.

The gun lobbies and pro gun groups have tried to convince everyone that there's only 2 and exactly 2 positions when it comes to guns. You're either "pro 2nd amendment" or you're some sort of anti-gun "liberal".

They don't want to compromise on anything related to guns, so they attack anyone who does anything to question the status quo.

Here is the kind of moron that shouldn't have a gun:

Michigan man charged with shooting at teen who knocked on door to ask directions

DETROIT —— A Michigan man has been charged with shooting at a teenage boy who knocked on his door to ask for directions, authorities say.

Jeffrey Zeigler, 53, a retired Detroit firefighter, was arraigned Friday on charges of assault with intent to murder and possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony, according to a release from the Oakland County Sheriff's Office.

Rochester High School freshman Brennan Walker, 14, told WXYZ-TV that he missed the bus Thursday and got lost while walking the 4 miles from his home to school. He knocked on the door of Zeigler's home in Rochester Hills to ask directions. Brennan said he was met by a woman yelling at him. She called her husband to the door, and he had a shotgun.

Walker’s statement to police differed from that given by Zeigler, according to assistant prosecutor Kelly Collins. “We do have the benefit of home security video,” Collins told the court Friday. He said Zeigler’s account was not borne out by the video.

“The victim in this matter, a 14-year-old child, indicated what had happened to the police and his version did bear out on that video,” he said.

Really interesting article from NY Times. Probably paywall so hopefully still have some free article views available:

I wish there was a way to frame Gun Regulation that is actually wrapped in this rural culture. I would think people out of hunting culture would feel a kind of pride their shooting skill which seems like it would contrast with so-called Assault Weapons with high capacity magazines or Bump Stocks intended to spray bullets. I guess I would just reiterate my previous post about non-semiauto guns such as revolvers for people who take pride in marksmanship.

As for it's the 'Individual' not the gun or the tool, you could sort of say that about cars which we require licensing and training for. I happen to have a higher Class A CDL license so I'm allowed to driving an 18 Wheeler Semi. Are we going to whine about freedom of unrestricted travel or accept the need for licensing to drive these huge trucks?

A lot of the rhetoric even sarcastically asks if we should Ban Cars after automobile related deaths. Well no, but we should take the licenses away from irresponsible people or not give that Privilege to those who can't safely drive.
