No, you can't benchmark checkerboarding vs PC native res regarding performance.

The PC was at 1440p which has a lower native pixel count at 3.686million pixels compared to the PS5's CB 4k at 4.147 million pixels.

So PS5 is rendering MORE pixels with better performance.

Anyone that has played the Horizon Zero Daw

Anyone that knows anything about the Horizon Zero Dawn PC port knows it was a pretty poor port even after the 800 patches.

Days Gone and Death Stranding were much better ports.

This is true. They probably should have used a better porting company than Virtuous.

Watch the video. It will make more sense to do that before trying to say it's not a valid comparison.

The only thing being compared is how a PC with similar power to the PS5 runs the game compared to the PS4/Pro and PS5 at similar settings and resolution. That's it. You do know there's a console settings in the PC port right?

It's not that deep.

And that setting makes PC go checkerboarding?

Horizon Zero Dawn offers a large amount of options to tweak, scaling graphical elements both higher and lower than the default PlayStation 4 presentation. Better still, the inclusion of an 'original' graphics preset is a great touch - and it's similar to the 'default' option on Death Stranding, where the settings are essentially a match for the PS4 version. You can define the console experience as the baseline and scale up - or down - from there. There is also a DRS setting.

Do we know what the native res the game was being checkerboarded up from?

2160p checkerboarding. So I'm assuming that is 1920x2160p.

"Pro and HDR support was integrated into Horizon relatively late into the game's six-year development, and Guerrilla experimented with several higher resolution strategies, trying them out side-by-side before settling on 2160p checkerboard. In terms of native rendering, the team gave 1500p a shot, but weren't fully satisfied with the results. And to be clear, checkerboarding in the case of Horizon involves rendering half of the pixels for the full 2160p frame, the other half resolving via reprojection from the previous frame - a process that Giliam says provides a "native resolution detail level", if not quite the sharpness. However, every natively rendered pixel - be it 1080p on base PS4 or checkerboard 2160p on Pro - also benefits from 4x temporal super-sampling."

There isn't one. Its a patch for the PS4.
Thank you sir. Google sucks. I was trying to follow this:

Digital Version to PS5

  1. Sign-in to your account on the PS5.

  2. Search for the PS5 version of Horizon Zero Dawn on the PS Store.

  3. Look for the PS5 upgrade button and click on it.

  4. Select Download.

Finally platinumed. Onto Frozen Wilds!

How long did Frozen Wilds take you? I preordered the DLC the day it was announced, but never played it (I could probably say this for the vast majority of DLC I've paid for...). I've been thinking about trying to knock it out before the new game releases but I'm worried i won't remember any of the controls, I recall hearing the enemies are fairly tough.

About 8-10 hours but I didn't platinum the DLC, just played through the main story+objectives. Probably another 6 hours or so if you wanted to complete everything.
