(Hot-topic of the year): Ken Ham vs Bill Nye.

So basically the whole argument for Ham is that you can't prove things that happened in the past because you weren't there. Ok.

Ham keeps talking about only stuff that's observable is what is to take as concrete but then he keeps brining up Noah, Adam and Eve, God snapped his finger and made the stars but not one of those is observable and based solely on faith that the bible is the absolute word of God.

I didn't watch the debate, so excuse me if I'm way off base here, but Ive heard the same argument from him a million times before.

He's not making an argument that his belief is better or more scientific, he is merely making the distinction between what we can test in a lab (like chemistry or physics), and drawing conclusions based on what we find buried underground from times long past. Some of it is based on science, such as stuff like carbon dating, but much, if not most, is about using the evidence to make assumptions about the past. Kind of like how a jury in a courtroom hears evidence at a murder trail. It cannot be scientifically proven, demonstrated, or tested. You can only try and convince people your story is the best one.

In other words, he's trying to say evolution is no more scientific than those that believe in creation. At its heart, both require some sort of faith.

He seems to believe it's an important distinction because people associate believing in creationism to being "anti-science" or being against the scientific process, which is sadly a misinterpretation shared by a lot of people (as if we actually go around saying, "lol, logic").

He was saying that Nye was wronged because he, and other scientists, weren't there. It's no different than Noah and the flood. Nobody was there. You have to believe the story. Nobody was there. Ham is taking his evidence, the bible, and claiming because it's in the bible it really happened. He was using that statement, "You weren't there," to discredit Nye's stance.

I guess the only question you should be asking him then is, "Why do believe everything the Bible says?". It's not an offensive question, and I believe every Christian ought to know it.

"Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect." (1 Peter 3:15)

Both men [Ken & Bill] conducted themselves respectfully and calmly. Their arguments were clear, pointed, and demonstrated a passion for their views. Is it necessary to declare a winner? The media is split on the issue. But the overarching victory for Christians in this debate is that the gospel of Jesus Christ was shared with the millions of people watching the debate.

We are grateful to Dr. Al Mohler, president of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, for his coverage of the debate. He attended the event and devoted an article and a podcast to discussion of what happened. After a thorough recap and analysis of the arguments presented by Ken and Mr. Nye, Dr. Mohler concluded, “The central issue last night was really not the age of the earth or the claims of modern science. . . . It was about the central worldview clash of our times, and of any time: the clash between the worldview of the self-declared ‘reasonable man’ and the worldview of the sinner saved by grace."

AiG news.

Whoa. Check it out, guys. This writer of TIME.com, Elizabeth Dias, made a comment about "all-white audience."

Nye, in his signature bowtie, and Ham, with his Aussie accent, hop on stage, shake hands, and ready themselves behind their respective Apple laptops (only Nye’s has stickers). Nye stands on the left. Ham is on the right. The cameras pan to an all-white audience.

 What she said was not completely needed. She needs to change the comment or she'll going to get a lot of hate-emails/twitters.

The audience wasn't all white though. It was white-dominated but definitely not all white.

Never mind a science guy battling a religious person. A more entertaining debate would have a group of various religious people battling it out.

Christian, Buddhist, Muslim, Hindu etc.... toss in Scientology too.

I re-watched the debate again and again to hear the comments from Bill and Ken. I have noticed that Bill made a mistake about Nuclear Medicine Technology (Video time: 1:25:27). Bill stated that “Right now, there is no place in the Commonwealth of Kentucky to get a degree in this kind of nuclear medicine”. In the video on Bill's TV screen, it says: “Colleges Offering a Major in Nuclear Medical Technology/Technologist” and then in the red words: “Unfortunately, we were unable to find any undergraduate programs in Kentucky for this major.”

Interestingly, you guys need to visit this page related to Nuclear Medicine Technology colleges. Here, you'll find at least two here in KY!

Bluegrass Community & Technical College
Mr. Charles H. Coulston, CNMT, Program Director
Nuclear Medicine Technology
470 Cooper Drive
330-A Oswald Building
Lexington, KY 40506-0235

Jefferson Community College
Ms. Cybil Nielsen, MBA, CNMT, Program Coordinator
Nuclear Medicine and Moleculer Imaging Technology Program
109 E. Broadway
Louisville, KY 40202-2005

Isn't Bill Nye from Washington DC? Does he know that that state only has ONE? To my knowledge I've only found one thus far:

Bellevue College
Ms. Jennifer L. Prekeges, CNMT, Program Director
Nuclear Medicine Technology Program
3000 Landerholm Circle SE
Bellevue, WA 98007-6484
425/564-2475

Perhaps Bill needs to "trouble" and "concern" about his own state! He may fooled many people but he cannot fooled Christians who studied the history very carefully! There you have it. I hope he comes forward and correct his mistake.

What a coincidence that you "noticed" this, after Ken Ham posted a blog about it:

http://blogs.answersingenesis.org/b...nt-that-kentucky-is-backward-technologically/

You sure you "noticed this" on your own Smurfboy?

By the way, since words confuse you... if you didn't notice this, and actually are just repeating what Ken Ham's blog told you, that's called lying. Might want to look that up in your book.

And Bill Nye is from WASHGINTON STATE not Washington, DC . You make a condescending post regarding education in Kentucky and then get extremely basic US geography wrong.

BunzHoles, EDIT: but all websites pointed out that Bill did born in Washington DC? But believe me, I've caught a lot of mistakes Bill have made, even before AiG posted. You probably don't believe me and that's okay. It's not like you've entered my mind and know something what I know. The point: it needs to be heard. He did stated wrong information in public. I'll be surprise if he didn't come forward and correct his mistake.

You didn't answer the question.

Did you get that from AIG's blog or not? Because it was conveniently posted on AIG's blog a day before you posted here.. with a link to the exact same web site you used for evidence, mentioning the exact same 2 schools.

And we all know you read AIG's blog..

And you confused me as you posted a college from Washington State while claiming Bill is from DC. Extra confusing because he spent most of his career here in Seattle. I guess he is from DC, either way geography fail as you posted a college from Washington State.

You are one strange ranger Smurfboy.

Rather obvious you lied about how you "noticed" that error in Nye's statements; you got it from Ken Ham's blog.. then came here to play pretend.
