How Final Fantasy 15 almost destroyed itself (with help from FF13)

The part about FFXIII being ruined by complete mismanagement really got to me...
It started with creative disputes - many of the staff couldn't agree about how closely FF13 should resemble the flashy, extravagant prototype shown off in its announcement trailer, leading to fissures within the group. With those discussions already taking up an unfortunate amount of time, creating the universal engine quickly became unmanageable

Not surprised. FFXIII was a bit of a hot mess. Especially considering how on-rails it was for a rpg. I'm usually not against linear games, but FFXIII did not excel under the formula.

Agreed. Although IMO, FF13 didn't suffer because it was linear, it suffered cause it really wasn't fun and got lost in its own convoluted lore.

Also Vanille and Hope.... The two worst FF characters together in the same game!

To cut the s*** on his statements...

"So yeah, the teams kept fighting whether to workshop ideas from Hawaii, Lake Como, or Dubai..

It really affected our work, not being a cohesive unit. So we went to all three. But at different times.

We were literally in the office for hours at a time, between our team building camps.

Luckily our next project, FFXIV launched without any issues."

True. I felt like the gameplay became more entertaining much later in the game when the combat system got a bit more trickier.

I had fun with Final Fantasy XIII. Was it the best? Maybe not, but still a great game. I honestly can't wrap my head around some of the reasons why people said it sucked. Like no towns to randomly roam around in for no reason at all. Or the game is linear until 40 hours in. Guess what? 40 hours in, you still have 60 to go. Sit back and enjoy.

I kind of felt the same way. Some of the late battles were really fun, but the story didn't really pull it all together well. If nothing else, though, I think the game proved that corridor RPG is just a s***ty subgenre.
