It's odd saying this at this great forum, which is pretty much a vastly superior forum, but I miss TXB and it's funky culture/identity.

Hmm...what's UVGF's identity?

I miss it too sometimes. I wasn't very active the last couple years of it, but around the 2004-2008 timeframe, I really loved that place.

I miss it too, this place has the same feel but we just need more traffic.

and why in the flying f*** isn't my 2001 TXB join data in my "user box"

I miss MSXbox why did TXB have to come along and ruin it?

haha.

I just miss the early days of the internet in general, it was so new and interesting. Now so many great forums are dying (or I should say have died)

And the alternatives that are still around, they're just not as high traffic as the big sites that imploded, but I do appreciate that we have UVGF for example, and the other interests I have there became decent alternatives.

I don't know what you guys do most of the time online, but I generally spend 80% of my time online cruising various forums because that's what interests me. I get the feeling I'm in in the vast minority there. I don't even really participate much in forums, I just like reading what people are discussing on topics I'm interested.

The early years of TXB were a lot of fun (1999 to ~ 2006 or so). It declined after that, and it was pretty screwed up in last year or two. I miss the early part.

Not so sure about the last couple years. On the one hand, there was more traffic and so more diverse game conversations than we have here. On the other hand, there was uncontrolled trolling, fanboyism, and personal attacks, not to mention spambots, that made reading TXB ridiculous at times. On the other other hand, while it's nice to have a cleaner environment here, some of that idiocy and out-of-control posting at TXB was entertaining, in the way a train wreck is entertaining.

I also miss the f*** out of TXB, it was my one stop shop for all xbox news. I found it around the ilovebee's stuff with halo 2, that was a pretty insane time haha. I used to lurk xbox addict back in the day too, not sure if anyone else did. I mostly lurk but I like this forum it keeps me on the up and up with xbox news...but txb was just special

My memory of TXB is a bit skewed, mostly because of how it was at the end. Sure, at its best, it was a good place for various personalities to talk on various topics but all that fell apart in the last couple of years. In the end, the place was a hell hole. Me, Plainview, Ketto, Aqua Snake, Li Tan and a few other mods would spend hours at a time clearing spambots. And when you spend hours cleaning the forum, just making it readable, you really don't feel like policing the forums for every little insult, trolling or slight. Its not an exaggeration to say the mods held that place together for 2-3 years longer than it deserved after IGN abandoned it. So while I appreciate what it was, I do not miss the place as it was.

I miss the green and black forum theme and the ability to disable images in posts and that's about it.

This funky enough for you bro!?

I made a few good friends there. the PP was fun. otherwise, i don't miss it much. i like the slow hum of this place.

I miss TXB at its peak. The last couple years started to suck as people left and the bots took over. I just the miss the feel of the forums, it's hard to replicate an atmosphere once you get used to it. We're on the right track here at Union though and the upgrade to the forum software is worth the move in itself.

I miss when shockwave was running it. 2003-2007 were pretty great years, but in the end its all about the people. In the age of instagram/reddit/twitter forums aren't popular among the current youth. I remember coming to TXB at the age of 13 (28 now), I dont see many people signing up to forums these days. all about twitch/Youtube.

I'm not trying to downplay what Nike did for us building this site because it's a lot better then the TXB end days and he made us a great place.

I do a little, but I was on there for nearly 9 years and I did it at the exception of pretty much everything else on the internet. The site kinda went off the rails when Microsoft stopped giving a f*** about "fan sites" like TXB and IGN stopped giving a f*** about developing the site beyond the date they purchased it. It got really s***ty on the back end, being unable to add or change features, especially as time went on. Then the split happen and none of the three sites got done what the original site did. After the whole Gamertype thing, I just sorta stopped reading forums for a while and now I'm kinda everywhere. A lot of reddit, though.

I kinda wish PV could get us the TXB theme for this site as an option. I loved it.

I was actually, some 12 years ago, negotiating with Nomb and Shockwave to do another theme for the site. The problem is: skinning vBulletin suuuuuuuuuucks and after I did a theme or two with Darax the Good for Hitchhiker's Guide to the Internet, I backed off.
