Anyone else notice an influx of quality indie/DL titles lately?

In less than 30 days (July 15 to Aug 15), all of the following will be released:

  1. The Fall
  2. The Vanishing of Ethan Carter
  3. Journey PS4
  4. Game of Thrones: Episode 4
  5. Everyone's Gone to the Rapture
  6. Life is Strange: Episode 4
  7. King's Quest: Episode 1
  8. Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons
  9. Submerged

That is substantial. I don't think there's ever been a period with as much quality indie/DL/episodic stuff packed into such a short time-frame. I'm happy with that, especially because I really enjoy some of those titles (although I haven't gotten to all of them yet).

I'm looking forward to new Chinese Room game, but I don't find the list too impressive given its over a month's time frame and mostly just a few ports of already long existed games or a few new episodic releases. I'm still waiting for indie games to actually take off on these new consoles.

I wouldn't discount the value of either the episodic games or the re-issues. The episodic games are breaking fresh ground, and the re-issues are some of the best indie games from last gen.

It's a matter of taste, of course, but I've never seen so many quality indie/DL games coming out in such a short period of time.

I'm only interested in the above off that list.
1 and 3 I've already bought.
2 was free as I already bought on PS3 and not have paid for it again.
4 is the only one on the list that I've been waiting for.

Just need to see what those 25 games in 5 weeks that are coming to Xbox are.

Oh, and I forgot Hatoful Boyfriend, a supposedly very weird game, a pigeon dating sim from Japan.

You missed N++

And if we go back a week earlier we can include Rocket League which has the highest user score on Metacritic for the year. Certainly the biggest sleeper MP hit of the generation.

Right, I noticed N++ but didn't bother to mention it. I'm sure there were other indies released in this period, too -- I just listed the ones that were of interest to me. Good point about Rocket League, too. Cool little sleeper hit.

This may just be my tastes, but here is a few more for the list. And No Time To Explain is now available on the Xbox One console if you don't have it for PC. Dead Realm is a multiplayer hide and seek game with a horrifying possessed chucky doll and many scared humans. Currently playing Rocket League like crazy. It's a really addicting game.

7. Skull Girls 2nd Encore
8. Legend of Kay
9. Absolute Drift.
10. Kings Quest

I wish kings Quest, Life is Strange, Skull Girls and Legend of Kay were on disc. I dont know WTF is wrong with Sony and Ms they should buy these games and mak them AAA franachises. Legend of Kay has so much potential its not even funny. Get someone like Insomniac workung on the game and its complete fire.

The Swindle had a lot of mixed reviews. Definitely not a gem by any standard. User ratings in the PS store average at 2.5 stars out of 5.

Beyond Eyes is out on X1 today. It seems to be getting some rather mediocre reviews. From what I can tell, you move very slowly through a landscape that is visually interesting but doesn't provide any real puzzles or challenge (aside from trying to find your way forward). The game is over in about 2 hours. Sounds unique but not terribly interesting, at least to me.

anyone got submerged? i got it on X1 and man the frames are horrible, constantly dropping

i wonder how it is on PS4, maybe should have bought it on that.

I passed on it, based on some mediocre reviews. Sorry, didn't read carefully enough to notice if framerate differed between the versions.
