Integrated Hometheatre/TV with your Xbox One: Talk about your experience...

I've got to imagine that Microsoft would put supporting an HDMI switch command so that you can switch AWAY from the Xbox would be pretty low on their list of priorities...

I think actual universal remote functionality would be a good selling point for the product.

Stopping at functions that only work within Xbox One is a limitation not of the technology, but of the software that is written for it. It would not be difficult to implement just a smattering of common commands either via Voice, overlay, or smart glass.

For instance, can it switch my reciever input TO the Xbox One? What if I'm using my PS4 and then want to switch to the Xbox One which is on.. why wouldn't MS want me to be able to say "Xbox HDMI 3" or whatever command they put to it?

It's really petty, and it's incredibly stupid of an actual Microsoft employee (who refuses to identify himself) to reveal such petty decision making, if it's even true.

Like I said, they stop short. Almost there, but not all the way.

And what is this I'm hearing about no surround sound with the TV coming through on hdmi?
Are you kidding me? The TV thing was a major selling point!
I sure hope they can patch some of this oversight.

I dunno. I think that'd be up to the AVR manufacturers discretion though. I'm praying for the Yamaha app, it's a suck ass move, but not entirely deal breaking.

That's just for the optical output.... and likely only for your cable box.

It's more common for a deviee that has HDMI in to block 5.1 over optical than it is to support it.. I don't know entirely why, maybe it's an expense thing.

Huh? It has nothing to do with the AVR manufacturer.. Xbox One is capable of sending IR commands.

It IS capable of being a replacement for a Logitech Harmony or other universal remote tech wise, but they are limiting the software. There's real reasons to do that (like just getting basic functionality in and then expanding your UI/UX over time) but if Flynn is to be believed it's a tactical decision, and a really dumb one.

I was talking about the hdmi in when you hook up your cable or satellite to it. But I read in the main thread there is a beta surround option to check, so might not be too bad. But then again if it is resampling the stereo back to surround it could sound like s***.

Again though, only for optical out right?

Hdmi -> Hdmi should be fine.

I know a lot of people have cheap 5.1 setups like logitech or other simple HTIB's but most "Real receivers" have had HDMI for a number of years.

You won't be able to dive deep into your AVR functions. SCENE, DSP selection. Unless it does full control, which it doesn't nor would I ever expect it to be... I'm still hoping for the Yamaha app.

Conversation was about simple input switching, am I missing something? I don't expect the Xbox One to go that far necessarily either, but if they opened up the API they could let 3rd parties do it.. is that the app you are hoping for?

But yeah.. I have a Yamaha reciever that supports network stuff but haven't checked it out as I don't have my receiver on my network yet. Plan on doing 2 AC routers and wiring everything through them soon.

Bunz you can't get 5.1 through the hdmi in port on the xb1. If you plug your cable box into the hdmi in slot you have to have an optical cable going from the cable box to the receiver for 5.1 else you won't be getting it. Again,no 5.1 pass through on the hdmi in port on xb1.
