I find this fascinating; my first dud career job was actually in broadcasting. I was a TV Station control room guy and News Van Driver. ( but extremely disappointing pay 😑 )

I think projects like this are extremely important and the effects of pervasive Media Technology on the public need to be discussed.

We've been having issues before all this with Talk Radio asshats like Rush Limbaugh or Alex Jones or Michael Savage that get listeners super woundup, stressed, pissed off, and just very reactionary. These audiences were primed and set for the arrival of FOX News.

Not that this is just a right wing thing, but I think it does seem stronger on the right, especially from mixing with Evangelicalism.

I think in Social Media, feedback loops can be created. News Anchors could talk about a candidate and their chances of winning...... but by doing so..... are they influencing their chances of winning with their coverage of their chances of winning? Even going so far as to be the Moderators of Debates which they later do News Stories on?

I dunno.... Media Nerd Rant Tangent, but just glad anytime to see this topic explored and it's sad amazing technology is in the hands of idiots.

Misinformation is as high as it’s ever been. It amazes me how many people I know IRL that believe all this s*** and the stuff they repost on social media. People have lost a grip with reality and now want to live in a fantasy/echo chamber.

The formatting of Facebook and Twitter / X is so awful. You have limited space to type a message that goes into a scrolling feed. It encourages Kneejerk response posting.

There is a similar difference say between old school Print Media and Television. In Print, YOU control the rate of information consumption. Meaning you can stop any moment or pause for Contemplation and Comprehension.

Network News plus YouTube or even Talk Radio is an information deluge coming in with no option to pause it. It probably nudges people's brains into a snap judgement or jump to conclusions mode without time for consideration before the next wave of information dumping.

Covering the news has also become more of the news coverer’s opinion (bias) over actually presenting the news. People that actually investigate and want to present accurate news are now seen as the enemy. No one/or their side wants to be painted in a bad light and just yell “fake news” or “conspiracy” towards them.
