Kojima Productions Disbanded?

Why are they disbanding? It's not financial issues, is it?

Take it you missed the kerfuffle rumors(likely true) of Kojima vs Konami Exec(s). the devs Kojima Productions where basically caught in the crossfire of spite, konami event went around removing Kojima Productions on their game page credits and stuff. Its probably kind of financially related since they're not focusing on big budget games anymore and someone up top at Konami clearly hates Kojima.

I hope Konami dies slowly painfully and cripplingly.

Well since there now mobile focused, i'd consider that a painful and crippling death.

Why are people siding with Kojima on this? He's the most brilliant artist in this industry but I have no idea how he and his team are to manage. I expect it was rather difficult. Do we have details?

I have zero doubt that Kojima can start a studio of his own.

I can see Kojima working with Japan Studio and being given a lot of freedom to make what he wants.

Pure speculation. But what the heck?

Kojima? I thought Sam Fisher killed him a loooooong time ago?

As far as anyone is aware, Kojima has done no wrong. All he's done is exist under a publisher who sees mainstream console gaming as less profitable than the cesspit of mobile games.

Yet the development of MGS5 marches on without a hitch. They release new videos, directly answer fan questions, it's like nothings different. They're a good bunch.

Me either. Now tell me why people view Kojima as an angel in this split?

I'd like to know, as well. Something obviously went seriously wrong for such an overwhelming reaction on Konami's part. I refuse to accept it was some petty personal issue.

I believe a direct translation of the name kojima is primadonna?

Didn't the company was doing well on some casino gambling games?

They saw the money on that and change their focus.

I would do the same as well if I see big money coming in faster then one title.

Plus Japan games don't have that touch for ages.

Let's hope so. Kojima and Konami are garbage. Said no gaming fan ever, other than Xbox fans. I'll give Konami a pass just for Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse.

Personally, I like to label the publishers as the demons in these situations. Publishers always seem to be the corporate evil ruining gaming.

this post is a mess.

It's all kind of mirroring MGS actually. A man betrayed, his organization disbanded, now we just wait for the omnipotent AI to secretly rule the world.

let's see how quickly he finds a home somewhere else.

Wtf?

Why is everyone acting like a little kid? Two entities have split and one side has only made non aggressive actions to aid the future of their MGS franchise.

It's crazy to see so many people reach some sort of conclusion without hearing either side of a particular story.

What is overwhelming? I'm honestly curious. Maybe I'm not that caught up to date with the story but from what I see, Konami has merely downplayed/removed Kojimas name and studio from promotional material. This seems totally reasonable to me considering Konami has an interest in where the MGS franchise goes in the future.

Isn't Kojima directing the game though? It seems completely and blatantly disrespectful to me.

Maybe they'll put it back in a week.

Has me worried though.
*cough* for more information on the game in question, why not go to my thread helpfully listed below *cough*

Ground Zeroes sucked, so I am sure this new one will too.

Don't all games have directors? How many games have the names of their directors plastered all over everything?

Also, wouldn't Kojima at least recognize that it's a good business decision to remove his name as much as possible? Maybe it's personal, maybe it's not, either way, Konami is smart to do it. Konami wants gamers to get excited for future Metal Gear games because of Metal Gear not because of Kojima.

But it's Kojima. The creator of the series. It's not Stig Asmussen or somebody like that.

Plus producers and directors are plastered on boxes a lot. " From the makers of this or that" Or " from The director of this series ".

It's a diss. And not a subtle one.

The closest parallel I could draw is if Firaxis decided that the next iteration of Civilization would no longer be called "Sid Meier's Civilization", and then they proceeded to lift their legs and take a leak on an original sealed copy of Alpha Centauri. I'll just say that when his time in the industry is done, Kojima will be revered, and while Konami's done some really good stuff as well, they're not going to be quite at the same level.
