Kojima Productions Disbanded?

But it's Kojima. The creator of the series. It's not Stig Asmussen or somebody like that.

Plus producers and directors are plastered on boxes a lot. " From the makers of this or that" Or " from The director of this series ".

It's a diss. And not a subtle one.

You're creating drama that may or may not be there.

It's a sound business decision first and foremost.

PS: You list the games that have creators names on the box. I'll list games that don't. We'll see whose list is longer.

Sure, I'm speculating. That's what we do at forums.

I won't get into that list argument since it's not the point. The point is that everyone expected Kojima's name on the box along with some big time recognition and farewell from Konami.

Why you're being disingenuous about this is a mystery.

Considering his name is on every box since MGS 2, I'd say it's significant. He DID make MGS 5 correct? It reeks of bad blood, but it IS speculation. It smells funny, and that's why it's being talked about. Also His abrupt cancellation of The new Silent Hill game also points to fishery. Just going by the scuttlebutt, but at least we are pointing out that it is speculation.

For someone who likes to read between the lines, you are strangely neutral on this one. Not sure why.

This would be what's known in Japan as " losing face " for Kojima. It's a pretty big insult by Konami.

How exactly am I being disingenuous?

I'm neutral because no one knows any details about this dust up. I'm just tired of seeing places like neogaf jump into Kojimas corner because they like his games.

In disagreements that I know nothing about, I tend to lean towards the group rather than the individual. With this particular scenario, I'm more interested in getting some actual details first.

I thought you were playing devils advocate for the hell of it. I was out of line. Apologies.

But you make a good point. We don't know what happened to disintegrate what appeared to be a rock solid relationship.

It's just weird. It reminds me of the Tecmo/Itagaki deal.

I agree with you. I just think something significant happened, something to prompt Konami's reaction. My original point was much like yours. I saw people jumping on kojima's side and was just saying whatever it is is significant.

I can see Kojima getting beyond himself. He is a big name, and it's got to be bad for Konami to even pull his name from MGS. Obviously I have no idea though. Just speculation.

Its probably a bunch of things all rolled into one and I doubt both sides are blameless.
  • I'm pretty sure Kojima said that that the decision to release Ground Zeros separately was Konami's decision and he didn't want to. So that probably tweaked some at Konami. So this makes me think internally he was probably irritating his bosses quite a bit.
  • You have the MGS series selling less with each iteration while costing more to make and Kojima taking his sweet autuery time.
  • There's been rumors that Konami has been treating the Kojima Productions staff terrible for quite awhile trying to get them to leave, this may have caused Kojima to further tweak his bosses.
  • And you have Konami getting away from big games and probably slowly getting out of the games market altogether.

So there's probably been quite a bit of internal stryfe going on. Its just speculation but i'd imagine Kojima was really tweaking some of the higher ups either before or after they decided to split and someone got so upset with him they want to wipe him from history as much as they can. It could be that they want to market the MGS franchise more synonymous with Konami instead of Kojima for future games, although the future of MGS is probably bad mobile games so maybe having Kojima's name associated with those in spirit would be a worse punishment.

I would love it if Hideo cracked it and announced that the game was only going to be 80% cut scene, instead of the original 97%...

Didn't something similar happen to the pervert from Tecmo/Ninja something?

His name is synonymous with those games! He should just hold off for awhile. Once the license gets stale (more so), he should be able to buy it back eventually.

nothing like an ego so big they take credit for the entire production. Who do they think they are Henrik Fisker or John Delorean?

A bonus mission in Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes feels like a prediction that Konami would erase series creator Hideo Kojima from the franchise he created long before that speculation became public, as YouTube user timesplitter88 points out in a recent video.

It happens in Ground Zeroes' Déjà Vu mission, where players take on the low-polygon look of the PSOne-era Snake from Metal Gear Solid. Released in March 2014, The previously PlayStation-exclusive mission is filled with references from the Metal Gear Solid 5's 1998 forebear.

Players who explore the map will find logos from previous Metal Gear games around the game's map. It's odd and it's meta, and it's very much the kind of thing that Kojima would do, as characters in the game...
