Amazing experience for me, setting, voice acting, story, sense of progression were second to none. The others were great too, but nothing like Oblivion. It felt magical in a way the others couldn't quite capture. Even the DLCs were epic.

I've went back to playing through it again, but this time on PC.
 
Oooh tough call. I remember waiting weeks for Blockbuster to get a copy of Morrowind for Xbox. When it finally came and I started playing, it was unlike any other game I played.
 
Well we know its not ESO. I mean its ok but doesn't compare to the rest.

Skyrim for me. The Viking feel and dragon fights were fun. I do miss the way you could break the game in morrowind with potions that allow you to fly. And I really enjoyed Oblivion but the crazy enemy scaling and oblivion gates did get on my nerves a bit.
 
I say Skyrim. It perfected everything from the previous games. Simplified the deeper RPG aspects while fleshing out the combat and character building. The world of Skyrim itself is the best in the series.
 
By today's standards it has to be Skyrim for me. Oblivion was great, but it was "magical" for me in part because it was a borderline launch title for the 360. It was a huge jump in what I had experienced in terms of scope while stable.

I only played Morrowind on the Xbox and it was truly a struggle. That said, I would love to replay it with reasonable frame rates and load times (backwards compatibility for OG Xbox?).
 
Morrowind is the best.

Hands down. Oh...and the music.

Plus these days on PC you can mod the snot out of it and it can look on par with modded Skyrim.
 
Skyrim by a few inches over Oblivion. Morrowind was awful, they should have called that one Oblivion because you would walk hours before encountering anything.
 
ESO aside, I think the Elder Scrolls games have only gotten better as they have come along. Each one surpassed its predecessor in very way. Skyrim was by far the best one to date but it is definitely built on the back of already stellar games in their own time.
 
Having only played Oblivion and Skyrim, have to give the nod to Skyrim. Oblivion is still great though.
 
No love for Arena?

No surprise. I still haven't finished it, and then I need to play Daggerfall still (not going to bother with the bastard offshoots or the online game). If I had actually played the game when it was out, it would have been awesome, but now it's just pretty good but I can't make myself play it without a walkthrough.

Morrowinds blessings are also its curses. It didn't hold your hand, and didn't limit you.

Want to enchant your boots with better jumping? Go for it. But you may jump so high that you fall to your death. And you could level up by jumping! Hello slopes of Vivec!
 
For me, Morrowind, easy.

I love the game, despite it's clunkiness. I loved not knowing what I was walking into, and being outmatched by baddies (unlike scaled enemies). I loved the look of an alien'ish world. The grittiness. The ability to truly mix/match gear. The dialogue. How I traveled from one place to another. etc.

Don't get me wrong, I love Oblivion and Skyrim to death, but I found those 2 to be incredibly easy. Like...RPG "lite".

Yes, little things like that made the game spectacular to me. It really didn't hold your hand, and in that approach, it made the game feel grand. Especially at lower levers, when I could walk over a hill, to encounter a new area, with baddies that could pimp slap me. Gave me something to work towards.

I do agree with everything you're saying about Morrowind. It felt more like a sandbox RPG. Probably the most fun to get lost in just messing around.

Morrowind was a breakthrough experience for me. I never realized that such a game was possible on a videogame console. All I'd played before that was platformers, racers, and shooters. This was ... a whole world. It completely captivated me for a good 4 months of my life. It was the first RPG I ever played, and it made an indelible impression.

Skyrim was a great game, too -- more polished in many ways, but less of a revelation to me, since it was the third Elder Scrolls game I'd played. The whole setup didn't feel as strangely amazing as it did the first time around.

I'll say Skyrim was the best game but Morrowind on the Xbox was the game that started it all for me. It was the first real open world RPG i had played and it was just amazing.
 
Yeah, there's definitely something to be said for Skyrim.

Morrowind made you work for its love.

Skyrim gave it to you freely, spread eagle, on the side of a cliff.

Both are as similar as they are dissimilar.
 
Easily Morrowind. You entered the world and were s***, weren't told where to go or what to do; It was your World. You leave Seyda Neen and see a dude fall out of the sky; wtf? Go along the coast west and enter into a tomb look above the door and there is a random ring placed there that can last the whole game. Who put it there?

First time I went to Balmora and joined the fighters guild thinking I was an awesome fighter with a silver dagger. Get a quest to protect some woman's house from rats. Enter into house and see tons of pillows everywhere (pillow fetish??) then proceed to get raped by rats. I gave up my dream of becoming a fighter that day. A few months later, real time, I was traveling the coast north of Aid Redadyia and I see a ship. Enter the ship and see tons of pillows and a note saying its a delivery for the same rat-house infested c***; that was an amazing moment haha.

Travel to Vivic for the first time and was as amazed as when I stepped out of the drop pod in Halo 1 (We all know the one). But before you get there you have some douche blocking the bridge saying you have to pay a toll. If you don't he kills you, so I ended up paying. Eventually, when I got strong enough I went back and got revenge.

Hearing Umbra's story for the first time and wanting him to kill you. The whole World was just filled with random things, and imo Morrowind was the best looking of all the territories (Swamps, grasslands, red mountain, weird looking buildings).

The best part of Skyrim for me was learning the dude on the same ship as you coming into port killed all the Cliff racers and became a legend. I hated cliff racers, but looking back they are one of the things that made Morrowind memorable.
 
I wish they would remaster Morrowind for consoles. Many young players need to experience it.
 
Never played Morrowind. So I'll have to say Skyrim. Even with the graphical jankiness on consoles (frame rate and screen tearing were lousy), it still was fantastic.

The old Arena and Daggerfalls are horrid in comparison. Maybe back in the day it was mindboggling to roam around a zillion square miles of territory. But those games were bland, played robotic and had so many bugs it was insane. Arena was a system hog too, so when I played it on a moderate spec PC 20 years ago, it was sluggish and crashed like crazy.

Then upgraded, and it ran much better. But still buggy.

A cool thing about those old games though was that you could create your own weapons. Not too many RPGs back then allowed that. You could adjust special powers and even numerical upgrades like I want to make a sword do +4 damage or +6 damage. Upgrades right to the number.

Bethesda games haven't changed one bit. Buggy as hell. And for even more bugs, Wayne Gretzky Hockey. Id say there were more quirks and bugs in that hockey game than all hockey games I've played combined! lol. But those old games had a ton of options no other sports game had at the time.

Scope > Polish
 
I've only played Oblivion and Skyrim. Skyrim I could only muster about 5 hours before deleting it. Loved the hell out of Oblivion though.
 
I think the questing and storylines were the best in ESO, actually, so that one got my vote. The MMO aspect of it puts a lot of people off but I think it's far better than people give it credit for especially with the writing.
