So yeah, I recently made an investment in myself and my programming as well as future game development by buying a Windows PC. I bought an Asus Q550L. It's a nice machine, but I have to get used to it. I have been using Macs primarily. I still have my current Mac (Air) for personal use. I just like Apple's UI. I know they're stuff is overpriced but that's another story.

Anyway, Windows 8.1. Help. Any tips? I am currently using the Desktop like a standard Windows machine. The App thing like the Xbox is cool, but kind of weird for a computer.

I would have just bought Parallels and Windows 8.
My Mac didn't have the greatest amount of Memory/Storage for the things I am doing. That's one thing I hate about Apple, not allowing substantial upgrades to their weaker machines.

Oh, yeah. I had an old Macbook Pro but bought an Air about a year ago. Works great, actually installed Yosemite (shhh), but I needed an i7 and at least 8 GB of Memory.

Gave up. Returned it for a beefy iMac. Going to run Windows when necessary. Don't judge me.

Lol, yeah, I suck.

I'll be the first Apple fan to say the products are overpriced and generally weaker than the competition, but man, the UI is so much better than anything else I have used. I will have to read tutorials on Windows when I get really into my work, but by then, hopefully Windows 9 will be out.

I've been a Windows user for years and I even work in IT with Windows servers all the time, but Windows 8 really annoyed me so I decided to buy myself a Macbook Pro this past spring and I really love it. I spent a boatload on it, but I wanted to make sure that I got something that would last me a few years and be a bit future-proof. I would recommend running windows in either Bootcamp or a VM. I use VMware Fusion and it works great.

Cool. Just need to grab Windows at a small price.

Im predominantly a Windows user, but my last job (I work in IT) the office was all Mac. Over the four years I worked there I grew to love OS X and Mac in general.
I plan on buying a Mac Pro sometime next year.
