Phil Spencer announced on Twitter that Azure is available for all, including exclusives on other platforms.
I think this is great news, I really hope MS, Sony and Nintendo make use of it.
As long as it's platform specific, Cloud compute won't be used as much as I'd hope. This opens up the opportunity for third party games to take advantage.
As much as I like pretty graphics, I think Cloud Compute could add real tangible benefits to a lot of games. Improved physics, AI and the ability to see hundreds/thousands of AI in certain games. Dead bodies, bullet holes, destruction staying in game instead of vanishing.
We're at the point of diminishing returns for power/graphics so Cloud Compute could definitely offer something different.
What do you guys/ladies think?

Edit: sorry I haven't provided a link, I'm not sure how to do it from my phone.

I personally don't think Sony would ever use Azure, as it sounds like a conflict of interest. Now, what if Titanfall 2 wants to use Azure? Would PS4 users log on to PSN, which is then routed to Azure, which is being hosted by Respawn?

Not sure how this could be anything but good. Better quality games all around.

That'd be sweet if they did just for the ability to say: "Thanks (MS) for making PS4 games even better than XB1"

Yep. Same as playing Battlefield 4 on Playstation or Xbox.

What this does do is unshackle the service from one platform and makes it a more viable option for third parties going forward.

Battlefield 5 using azure? Maybe the next COD will finally be on dedicated servers?

You kidding me? There's no chance we would ever soil ourselves like that.

Been using dedicated servers since Ghosts.

Is what they keep telling us. Not even I believe it, and I'm the biggest COD fanboy.
I think they did in ghost because I never saw one host migration. But they most certainly do not in black ops 3. That's confirmed by the amount of host migrations I have seen and even quite a few - borders. Rumors were that they do have a certain amount of listen servers available but the majority of it is peer to peer. I had to leave a game early tonight because I had somewhere I had to be and lost track of time and immediately said host migration the second I quit.

Nope & nope.

Activision went with a hybrid system in Ghosts & beyond that mixes dedicated servers with listen servers. Listen servers is basically P2P. How many ddicated servers do they have? nobody knows, they only need 1 to make that statement truthful.

"Host Migration" in every COD that I have played means P2P.

I don't see any conflict of interest. It's a cheaper than them building their own.

Do you think it's more of a money thing as to why Activision does not use Azure to host cod games instead of peer to peer ?

I think when Azure was Xbox only it makes hard for multiplatform games to use it for multiplayer. My understanding is that Azure is free for games, on the Xbox anyway.

I assume the reason they ignored it was to have one network for all gamers, rather than 2 different networks. I assume that is why EA do not use it for BF too.

I see no reason for them not to use it now.

I wonder if Nintendo is using this service right off the bat for their next console? It sounds highly reliant on the cloud.

Dedicated servers should be standard for mp fps games at this point. I won't buy another COD game until they go dedicated. This is the first year I have totally passed on COD since the beginning of the series.

I always said this would be licensed out to other company's in the xbox forum when it was talked about and people still was thinking MS would keep it for themselves to make One a super console. MS was always going to use this tech for other tings besides gaming and MS is a software company first and foremost.
