    Groove Music and Spotify: FAQ

As of October 2, 2017, we’re excited to announce that we’re partnering with Spotify to bring the world’s largest music streaming service to you. We know that access to the best streaming experience, the largest catalog of music, and a variety of subscriptions are on the top of your list. Now you can move your curated playlists and collection from Groove directly into Spotify. Groove Music Pass users eligible under Spotify’s terms will also be able to receive 60 free days of Spotify Premium (see below for eligibility details).

After December 31, 2017, the Groove Music Pass streaming service will be discontinued. Before then, you’ll be able to use your Groove Music Pass through the end of your subscription. If your Pass subscription goes beyond December 31, 2017, we will give you a prorated refund or a Microsoft gift card (see details below). We’ll continue to update the Groove Music app so you can play and manage the music you’ve purchased and downloaded to your PC or uploaded to OneDrive or another cloud storage service. But the app will no longer stream or play Groove Music Pass content after December 31, 2017.

What’s happening to the Groove Music Pass?
As of December 31, 2017, the Groove Music Pass streaming service will be discontinued and will no longer be available. The built-in Groove Music app will continue to play all the music you’ve purchased and downloaded or uploaded to OneDrive, but will no longer stream or play any Groove Music Pass content.

What's happening to the Groove Music app?
We’ll continue to update the Groove Music app so you can play your purchased music, including the tracks you’ve uploaded to OneDrive. On December 31, 2017, the option to stream, purchase, and download music from Groove Music will be discontinued. After December 31, 2017, you’ll still be able to listen to your purchased music if it has been downloaded.

Shame as I've really enjoyed the service. Guess we now know why the app finally came to Xbox...

You'll still be able to stream it with Groove music in the background on your Zune.

Yeah it was. I still use the Zune media player to sort my music and update/edit album info.

It was also great because I bought a 120GB Zune that came with all the accessories right after they announced the Zune HD , it was on clearance for $160 Canadian and I used the hell out of it for years. Then last year I stumbled across it and realized I'd never use it again, sold it it for $280 on eBay. Could not believe they are actually worth more now if in good condition with accessories.

Am I the only one who doesn't use streaming music services? I still just go look at reviews, listen to clips based on stuff I like and then download it on my desktop, copy it to my phone. Good quality, saved for life, organised as artist, album.

The whole idea of all these young people not "owning" albums and having a legit music library is a bit sad to me. I feel like most of them don't have a proper home stereo system to listen to it at it's optimal quality.

I like how if you buy a CD from Amazon you get the MP3 downloads as well (without much DRM).

I understand that you can't rest on your laurels and you have to make change. Sure, Groove obviously wasn't successful. But who is at fault for that? I would say MS is at fault. They didn't promote it properly, and what was the incentive to use their product?

I think MS needs to figure out what they want, and what the consumer wants. We don't want them to create Zune, then kill it off. Create their digital sound system, then kill it off. Create their routers, then kill them off. Create @msn.com email, create @live.com email, create @hotmail.com email, then create @outlook.com and then kill them all off. Create Microsoft Money then kill it off. Create Microsoft Tax Saver and kill it off. Create Kinect and then kill it off. Create Xbox Music and kill it off. Create Groove music then kill it off. No doubt they will kill of Mixer. Create endless product after endless product and killing them off. That is one of the reasons, other than Xbox, that I can't stand Microsoft's products.

The only "problem" with Groove was that everyone already had Spotify. I already had a Spotify subscription and already had a bunch of playlists. The only reason I used Groove was that it was the only way to listen on Xbox. There was no other reason, and once Spotify worked on Xbox, Groove was done.

I still liked it because you could upload music to OneDrive so you could add music not available and add it to playlists. So, those bands like Tool, Peter Gabriel who never let their stuff stream, you can add them along with the rest of your music.

I still have a Zune HD that works great. I got the email about this and was told to check my music to download. Didn't realize I had purchased so much through Zune/Groove. Think most of it is already downloaded but something I'll have to get around to sometime.

You can now transfer from groove to Spotify via a W10 pc or on Xbox one

So it says you can transfer ripped music to Spotify on a pc/ laptop yet it's not working. Is it a paid service feature?
