Miami Vice
I loved this trailer the moment I saw it. Numb/Encore fit very well and it was edited together perfectly. The look and feel of the cinematography sucked me in. I ended up seeing it three times in the theater I believe. It was a great summer and I watched the trailer countless times. I still watch it every now and then to bring back those memories.
The Departed
It was Scorsese's return and the buzz about his first Academy Award was around before the trailer dropped. The movie had one of the best young casts in years. Comfortable Numb sets the trailer over the top. Scorsese knows how to select music for his movie, twice in Comfortably Numb's case, and it made perfect sense to use it in the trailer.
Little Children
What can I say, it's one of the most foreboding movie trailers I've seen. The train sound give a constant, and increasing, level of uneasiness. You can get a grasp of the movie perfectly from the trailer. You get the understanding that, as the movie progresses, it becomes more chaotic, dangerous and filled with doom.
The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
If you haven't noticed by now, music plays a major role in how I receive a movie trailer and The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers is no exception. The amazing Lord of the Rings theme song sets the tone of the trailer and Requiem for a Dream brings it home. The slam cut to Aragorn opening the doors was the icing on the cake.
There Will Be Blood
Like Little Children, the trailer for There Will Be Blood has an increasing sense of tension and doom. I had no intention to see the movie before I saw the trailer. After seeing the trailer, it was a must. Plainview' lines, "When I look at people I see nothing worth linking. I see the worst in people. I have a competition in me. I want no one else to succeed," culminating with Plainview's sadistic laugh, the trailer solidified we would be seeing an ultimate character piece of selfishness at all costs, even family.
