Must be slow news day for Jez. He didn't release any information that we didn't already see from the acquisition case records. He just regurgitated exactly what was shown last year, again. And with the exact same slides.

I better be able to lay the console on the side.

Tactic seems to work for IGN

Meh. Basically the "slim" approach.
What did you expect?

Spencer has said multiple times a mid gen refresh makes little sense this gen.

Plus, how much more power do you really think you would get? They have no obvious upgrade to hit either like they did with 4K last gen.

Someone on neogaf who has a decent track record said that this digital xbox series x was cancelled a little while back.

I could still see it happening, but more than likely they’ll have the current one at a highly discounted price until there’s no more. Cos it wouldn’t make sense if they kept it and not make some money off it, but I doubt it, unless they refreshed the inside, say a smaller chip size. But even then they’d split the player base with those who were hat would have Bluetooth and whatever new wifi protocol they’d be using on the new variant. It may just make more sense to wait for the next gen, but I’m no me ever of the think hat team at ms.

MS doesn't make money on hardware. They actually lose but at least it gives a chance for that gamer to invest in their software side.

I wasn't really even expecting a refresh at this point if the rumored next gen console is 2026.

Don't forget the famous no need for a refresh comment because the XSX was supposed to be the mid gen refresh but launched at same time 🧐

Yeah I thought Phil was talking the next Xbox One X not being needed.

He was commenting on a "Pro" or hardware upgrade. If this refresh keeps the specs the same then that remains true.

Hardware upgrades for the rumoured 2024 shows better and improved cooling efficiency, larger digital drive, new and upgraded controller.

Think he just mentioned a mid gen refresh didn't really say much about specifically a Xbox one X ?

In all questioning to Phil, he said there would not be any mid gen refresh that is akin to Xbox One to Xbox One X. He said that the Series S was their Xbox One and the Series X is their mid gen Xbox One X, just released at the same time.

He doesn't want to do a third sku to make developers make games for.

"I think what we get ourselves into is this world of like, 'Should we do a mid-gen refresh? Because we think every game should be 4K 60fps. And we're not seeing that right now so, clearly, we need to mid-gen refresh.' As soon as you start doing mid-gen refreshes, you've got a bunch of issues in front of developers, on what platform they target. And it starts to feel a lot more like PC - which is clearly a good ecosystem that's healthy, but then I'm like, 'Okay, well, what's the difference then between console and PC, if we're in this mode of every two years, a new GPU comes out, or CPU?' And there's a bunch of things. I mean, we are the Windows company. We know what it means to run a platform that's more continuous and, I will say, open. I actually love that for console gaming. I love having Discord on our platform, which is something 10 years ago, Xbox would have been like, 'no way!'"

I guess one way to bypass that is launching their next gen earlier like the rumoured 2026.

Digital only. Even less reason for me to want or need one.

I'm not seeing anything here (as far as Series X) that makes me think I'd want to swap for the new one.

Wifi 6e, is that new to this? Doesn't matter to me I go Cat8 to an Orbi sattelite.

But still it's cool that they're doing something new, as they should. But the tech specs don't seem like anything I'd be missing out on.
